Samuel Roberts has just moved into his perfect suburban neighborhood town of Stepford. He was 25, single, and had just accepted a new job a large advertising firm in town. He was starting a brand new life and career here.
He loved his house. He was perfect for a small family and maybe even a dog some day. He wanted the traditional family life someday but had found himself far to career focused to hold down a long term relationship.
After moving in town Sam noticed strange things about this town. The first was how clean everything was. From the stores, to the houses and even the cars. Everything looked like it was trying to be on a magazine cover.
The second thing he noticed were the people. Specifically the women. He hadn’t passed a woman yet who wasn’t married. They were also quite naturally perfect physically in practically every way. Long well kept hair, large full and perky busts, wide hips, long slender legs, and full heart shaped butts. They too looked like they came right out of a catalog. They also wore tiny little dresses and heels everywhere it seemed. Even to the grocery store or gas station. It was like they were dressed up all the time.
In his neighborhood he met all his neighbors pretty quickly as they all came over to introduce themselves. It was so strange. Each house was a family of four. Father, mother, son, and daughter. They too all seem sculpted to perfection.
This didn’t bother Sam too much. Everyone was incredibly nice and friendly. Almost too much sometimes as it seemed his neighbors wanted to come over often and chat.
“I still don’t understand how you can be single!” Wanda said to Sam as she drink her wine.
Wanda was one of the older women living here. She and her husband George ran the local community watch program and were kind of the self proclaimed leaders of the neighborhood.
“I know it’s just life?” Sam said unpacking some boxes. He didn’t really want Wanda at his home right now but she insisted she come over and had even brought a guest.
“This is Marshall. He had just moved here last summer with his wife Stephanie. They were planning to start their family soon but tragedy struck...a terrible car accident took Stephanie from us a few months ago.” Wanda said wiping her tears away with a fancy handkerchief.
Sam has never met Marshall before but he seemed a nice guy. A few years older than him. Actually worked as an executive for a huge tech company and made really good money. Tall and handsome with dark hair. He seemed like the kind of guy Sam aspired to be in few years.
“I’m so sorry to here about there.” Sam said shaking Marshall’s hand as Marshall smiled back giving Sam a look almost like he was inspecting him.
“You haven’t touched your wine! I brought it over just for you!” Wanda said.
“Oh that’s okay...I really need to finish this.” Sam said trying not to be rude but wanting to give signals he wanted to be left alone.
“Oh I understand busy young man and all. Well it’s just a shame we have two single men now on our block. I just wish there was a way we could round this out and find partners for both of you.” Wanda said.
“Well maybe one day who knows?” Sam said shrugging as he was getting a little annoyed now.
“Well...I don’t wanna keep you. Will you do me a favor? Let’s all have a toast to Stephanie!” Wanda said raising her glass.
Sam rolled his eyes. If it meant getting these people out of his house sure he would toast and try Wanda’s wine.
He took the glass and raised it up as the three of them cheered as Sam took a sip. It was actually quite nice. Sweet and bold with a lot of flavor.
“That’s not bad.” Sam said nodding.
“Well thank you Sam...I’m glad you like it. However I must be frank...I’ve actually come over to tell you that I’m a bit more serious about this neighborhood balance situation...we need you to fill the role left behind by Stephanie...” Wanda said.
“What...? I’m not sure I understand.” Sam said getting a bit defensive.
“Well...we have decided it is in the neighborhood’s best interest to have you take over for Marshall’s wife. We need a new young couple after all and two single men on the same block just doesn’t look good...” Wanda said with a smile.
Sam was officially creeped out and upset...
“Okay...I think it’s time...I...Uhh...I think...” Sam began to say as he lost his balance.
His whole body felt slow and sluggish...something was wrong...was he...was he drugged?
Sam’s eyes darted to the wine...
“What..did you do to me?” Sam asked losing his balance more.
“Oh just given you something to relax...it will help make this transition much easier...” Wanda said with a smirk.
