Sasuke was used to constantly being in his brother's shadow, but that didn't make it any easier; especially not when it came to light that he had trouble with one of the first basic tasks of simply getting to the toilet on time. It had gotten to the point where he was taken to the doctor's, only to learn that he'd been born with severe bladder incontinence, and some bowel incontinence as well. He overhead the doctor telling his mother that it was likely that he'd be in diapers for life.
He was starting to see just how right that doctor must've been, because even now at the age eight he could only seem to get to the bathroom twice a week on a good week. He was getting tired of it incredibly quickly; the disappointed looks from his father when he could tell that Sasuke had missed the toilet, the pitying looks from the rest of his clan, and the blatant favoritism toward Itachi. Not that he blamed his brother, but it was still painful to know that in his father's eyes he would never be as good as Itachi. He loved Itachi though. He was the only one that didn't look at him with pity, who only ever tried to help him. Itachi was his world…but then the massacre happened, and Sasuke's world shattered.
Itachi had left, not without telling Sasuke why, of course. Danzo. The name made bile rise in the back of his throat. He had to get stronger. Then he could make Danzo admit what he did to Itachi, and Itachi could come back to him! So he trained. Day in and day out, restlessly perfecting every technique that came his way. He had unlocked his Sharingan that night, and he used it to his advantage; he carefully memorized scrolls that held his fallen clan's taijutsu katas and some of the lower ranked ninjutsu that he could practice without having to take the scrolls out of the protected district.
It was paying off. Slowly but surely he could see and feel himself getting stronger, and now at the gennin exams he was beyond ready to meet his jonin instructor and truly start learning. He came in top of the class, just like he planned, but he had not accounted for the two terrors known as Haruno Sakura and Uzumaki Naruto being on his team. This was setting up to be one big headache, but at least Naruto was bearable. He remembers his nii-san speaking fondly of him, often telling Sasuke to be nice to him, that he was one of the best friends that he could have. It always made him wonder about the orphaned boy, but he never asked because it seemed wrong. Now he might never know, but maybe…maybe now he could try to rekindle the lost friendship of the golden-haired boy.
