Barb smiled, clearly amused. "Such a gentleman! And here I thought you were gonna try and take advantage of the situation somehow."
"Oh, no," said Tom, "I--"
"I'm joking, Tom," said Barb, "And even if you had tried, I wouldn't have minded. You seem like a nice enough boy." She considered what she had just said, evidently thought nothing of it, and kept going. "Dinner and a movie sounds nice. What did you have in mind?"
"Oh, uh--" began Tom, "I'm not sure. I haven't been to a lot of places around campus."
"Oh, Tommy." Barb shook her head. "You're in over your depth, aren't you? I tell you what. There's a sushi place in town that I go to sometimes. You take the night and think about what movie you want us to see. I'll drop by your apartment tomorrow at 6."
"To-tomorrow?" asked Tom. "That's--I thought we'd need a bit more--I just--"
"I'm off tomorrow," said Barb. "And I wanna make sure that you get repaid for all the help you did." She stood on tiptoe and pecked Tom on the cheek. "And I'm not taking no for an answer. Tomorrow at 6. My treat. Now get on back home."
Somewhat flabbergasted, Tom turned around and walked out of Barb's apartment.
