This choice: Let's see Tim the growing tyke! • Go Back... On that faithful day, Tim found a cool looking room. The 5-year old kid was playing hide and seek with his brother, the 16-year old Mark. Little did he know that Mark wasn’t actually looking for him: he just wanted to get rid of his smaller brother, who he found annoying.
They were at Sterling Laboratory, where their father worked as a janitor. The man had to come in because he couldn’t finish all his work during regular working hours, and he hated when the boss yelled at him for missing some cleaning around the offices. Thomas, the father, unable to found suitable baby sitters for the time, brought in the boys, with the strict instruction that they should watch each other in the lobby while he went through his work. They played like for 10 minutes before Mark got enough of Tim’s constant nagging.
“I hate that you are so small!” said the older boy. “You can’t even catch a ball properly... You know what, I bet you are excellent in hide and seek! I turn around and count to sixty...”
And so the smaller kid wobbly walked away, exploring the empty halls, until he found a large room with a cool looking massive device mounted on the ground, the muzzle pointing towards a central platform.
“Cool” He whispered as he squeezed himself behind a shelf. With his unusually small 3 feet tall figure it was quite easy. He giggled, thinking his big brother will never found him here!
Later he heard voices. Tim remained silent in his secret hiding spot.
“Wow. This is some lab.”
“Way better than the attic, right?”
“Way better!”
“Okay, we have to lower the intensity somehow. What does the computer say?”
“Access denied.”
Tim peeked a little. He saw an adult and an older kid, probably a teen, pushing various buttons around. The big machine whirred up. He didn’t move, afraid of being discovered.
“Hey, what if we diffuse it, dad?”
“Excellent idea, my boy! Now, we need a target... Hm, why don’t we use Adam’s plush bunny? Why do you even carry that thing with you?”
“He gave it to me before we left to watch him over... Couldn’t say no!”
“Ah, I bet he will love to see a Big Bunny once we’re back! Okay, put it there.”
Then there were more noises Tim couldn’t interpret. They were fiddling with the machine. There was a countdown. 10... 9... 8... 7... 6... 5... 4... 3...
“Watch out! A power surge!”
2...
A bulb exploded. Tim jerked.
1...
Suddenly, a blinding flash filled the room. Tim covered his ears, and a warm feeling filled him from the stomach, as if he just ate a hot soup. Unbeknownst to everyone in the room, the machine, which was a growth ray, hit the glass piece Nick, the teen placed there to scatter the beam. Which it did, except one of the beams bit Tim directly, altering and charging the young boy’s molecules.
Tim became dizzy and disoriented. The sounds became muffled. By the time his head cleared up, the two already left, leaving the tyke alone. He decided it would be better to end the game and return to the lobby.
“You are terrible at this game, you know that, right?” Mark sighed and shook his head. Tim didn’t answer – he felt strange. He couldn’t really explain it. It was not sickness, not a tummy ache, not excitement, but a tingling feeling.
The father returned shortly after. “Finally! All the bins are empty. Ready to go home, boys? Did you have fun? What did you play?”
Tim answered with the first word that came to his mind.
“Bigger.”
