Chapter #9

A Failed Attempt and An Idea

    by: Unknown
Both your Pokemon looked, in fact, very concerned.

"Then, what do we do?" Meowstic wondered, looking at his sister,
"We can't just leave him like that, can we?" he reasoned, glancing back at you,
"... Do we try to reverse this?"

The other Meowstic, who was currently holding you, let out a sigh.

"... I guess we could, but I'm assuming it's not going to work. Mew is a legendary, her psychic powers are more powerful than ours." she replied.

"Yeah, but it's worth a shot, don't you think? If the both of us tried really hard, maybe we'll be able to restore his size."

Your female Meowstic stopped looking at you to look at her sibling instead.

He did have a point.

"Well... I suppose we could give it a try..." she replied, proceeding to bend, placing you back on the ground in between the two of them; in all of this, you were still wondering what the two were up to and voiced that thought.

"Meow."
"Meow."

"... You're gonna try to grow me back?" you asked.

Both your Pokemon nodded their heads.

Huh.

You hadn't thought of that, but the idea slightly scared you. After all, your Meowstic never actually tried to alter the size of... anything really, especially not a human being.

Not that there was any need to, after all.

However, you guessed it wasn't a bad idea: after all, even if you couldn't compare them to legendaries, Meowstic were still rather powerful psychic Pokemon. Who knew, perhaps they would be able to fix you in no time flat and nip this crazy experience in the bud.

Reassured by your own thoughts, you nodded back.

"Okay." you agreed,
"Just be careful." you instructed, receiving reassuring smiles in response, though you could tell that both Meowstic were just as nervous as you were, if not more: this would be the very first time they tried something like this, after all.

Slowly, both titans backed away from you, causing the ground to shake moderately beneath your feet.

"So, how are we going to do this?" the female Meowstic wondered aloud as she stopped a few feet away from you, getting a flat look from her sibling.
"How am I supposed to know? We never tried to grow anything." he replied, before adding in a sarcastic tone,
"At least, I never did. How about you?"

The response Meowstic got from his sister was a low growl.

"So we are just going to use our powers without even knowing what we are doing?" she asked, causing the other to sigh,
"Just focus. We'll do just fine. " he replied, before briefly glancing elsewhere,
"I hope..." he mumbled.

You watched your Meowstic, daunted: from what you could get of their conversation, they had little to no idea how to fix you. Figures. Yet you chose to stick to what little hope you had that they could actually give you back your height and put an end to this situation.

Wordlessly, both of them closed their eyes and extended her long ears, focusing their psychic powers on you: if you had to describe the experience, you'd say the air around you had grown heavy, and its weight kept increasing as the two Meowstic focused even more.

Sadly though, nothing happened.

After a couple of minutes, you felt the invisible aura fading all of a sudden as both of your Meowstic stopped, panting. They were also visibly upset.

"It... it didn't work..." Meowstic needlessly stated, only for his sibling to shoot a haughty look,
"T... Told you so..." she panted, turning to you with a less annoyed and more concerned expression,
"Master..."

As your two Pokemon recovered, you looked at yourself, trying to see if there had been any changes, if you had gone up at least an inch.

But it was hopeless: you hadn't grown. Your Meowstic couldn't restore you.

You let out a sigh, feeling the now familiar feeling of the ground quaking lightly beneath you as your two partners approached.

"Meow..." Meowstic cried dejectedly, bending to pick you up in his paws: both of them stared at you with sorrowful expressions.

"... Hey, it's okay," you reassured, donning a meek smile,
"You both did your best. It's not exactly easy to equal a legendary's power, you know."

Neither of them looked particularly relieved after that little speech.

"Come on, even if I'm still small, it just means we have to figure out how to fix me," you tried to encourage the two of them.

Your female Meowstic pouted.

"That's easy. You said Mew told you to find her, right?" she recalled, causing her sibling to wear a dejected look on his face,
"She's probably halfway across Kalos right now..." he mused.
"So what? That just means we gotta search until we find her. She's gotta be somewhere!"

You felt relieved.

Meowstic and Meowstic, they were both right: fixing you was simple, you had to find Mew, wherever she was. Too bad there wasn't any other way... was there?

Suddenly, you glanced in direction of Anistar City, noticing the huge pink sundial shining in the sunset; suddenly, you remembered something.

"Olympia!" you yelled, causing both your Pokemon to stop arguing to look at you. You sent a big smile to them,
"The gym leader of Anistar City! We beat her a while ago, remember?"

Your two Pokemon thought for a moment, then both replied affirmatively,

"Meow!"
"Meow!"

Indeed, you had fought a very hard battle against Anistar's gym leader some time ago.

Olympia used powerful psychic-type Pokemon, perhaps she would be able to help you!

"Olympia might be able to do something about this!" you explained,
"And even if she can't, perhaps she'll be able to tell us where Mew is!" you said, remembering the gym leader's fame as a fortune teller.

The two Pokemon siblings looked at each other for a moment, exchanging a few words, before looking back at you with two big smiles.

"That's-"
"An excellent idea!"

You smiled right back.

"Alright then," you said with newfound determination,
"We have to get back to Anistar City."
