Jesse was startled awake as his plastic prison began to jostle. Looking around he saw he was in complete darkness. He could hear several muffled voices around him.
"C'mon let me see." One said, sounding youthful.
"Yeah! C'mon Abby! Show us." Another young voice said.
Several more chimed in with similar demands. Light shone through an opening as a giant hand shot down towards him. The massive hand wrapped around his prison pulling him into the light.
As his visit focused Jesse was terrified as he realized the girl had brought him to school with her. Children all roughly the girls age surrounded, and stared down at him. A new hand grasped the plastic box before bringing it to their eye. "It's so ugly." The giant boy said before passing the box to another kid.
Jesse's heart pounded loudly in his chest as he was passed around between a seemingly endless chain of 9 year olds. He was tossed and slung around by reckless movements, and playful shaking. Fingers constantly tapped the box causing thunderous booms to echo through his ears.
Suddenly back in the girl's hands he felt an unexpected wave of relief. Unfortunately that past as the box was suddenly snatched from her hands. In the blink of an eye an older girl had Jesse in hand.
"Hey! Give that back!" The girl demanded.
The bully violently shook the box, slamming Jesse hard against the walls. "Eww! Gross! Bug girl has another pet." She mocked.
As the girl desperately reached out to grab the box the bully jumped back. Jesse was powerless to do anything as she began to run away. Looking up her saw the girl smiling deviously before intentionally dropping the box.
As it slammed into the ground he saw the girl running to grab him. Before she could the bully dropped her converse clad foot on top of the box. The plastic creaked as she added more and more pressure.
"Stop it! You'll squish him!" The girl pleaded.
"Uhm, yeah, that's what you're suppose to do to bugs dummy." The bully mocked as she twisted her foot back and forth on the box.
"What's going on here!?" An adult female voice called out.
Almost instantly the chaos around Jesse ended. The bully stepped off of the box and moved away as if to distance herself from blame. "Janie took my pet bug, and was going to stomp on it." The girl said pointing to Jesse on the ground.
The teacher saw the box and sighed. "Abby, you know I told you to stop being bugs to school." She groaned.
Jesse watched as the teacher walked towards him. Her leather Birkenstocks causing heavy tremors to run through the floor. Her massive well manicured hand wrapped around the box and lifted it into the air.
"Janie. Go to the principal's office." The teacher ordered sternly.
"Yes, Ms. Blake." Janie said softly before leaving.
Ms. Blake walked towards Abby with Jesse in hand. She reached out for the box but Ms. Blake didn't release it. "Abby, you can't keep bringing bugs to school we've talked about this. Repeatedly." She said. "I'm going to hold to this for now. Go back to class."
"Can I get him after school?" Abby asked.
"If you're even one second late, I'm either going to toss this thing outside, or squish it myself." She said firmly. "Do I make myself clear ?"
Abby's head hung down. "Yes ma'am." She said before turning to leave.
Ms. Blake carried the box with Jesse back to her classroom. Without even looking at him closely she dropped the box in her desk draw and slammed it closed. Once again in darkness Jesse waited nervously, hoping that Abby wasn't late.
After the last bell had rung Jesse stood in anticipation. It seemed to take forever for the drawer to open again. As Ms. Blake brought him into the light he saw....
