Chapter #5

Family Dynamic

    by: Applegar Author IconMail Icon
Only his younger brother, Joshua, was eating breakfast. Joshua was 10 years old, and had brown hair and green eyes. Joshua was 4' 1", making him short for his age. Joshua was also rather shy, but he would ramble for hours about something if someone would listen. He was always trying out and doing different things, meaning his ramblings were always about something new. Scott was often the one listening, especially with what was happening to him right now. Despite the immense size difference between them, Joshua was the person closest to Scott right now, since he had seldom opportunity to chat with his friends online. Joshua had, surprisingly, helped him the most through this, by being a supportive brother. Even if it was just by being there and talking.

His parents often had breakfast ready for him and Joshua early in the morning. They both worked early in the morning, and were gone before Joshua or Scott awoke. The eldest brother, Bryan, lived in a dorm close by so wasn't in the house. Though he did visit often to help Scott out when he could.

The breakfast laid before Scott was his standard fare. The various doctors he has visited since his growth have been closely monitoring his health, as well as regulating his diet. Everyday was carefully monitored and portioned to make sire Scott acquired the proper nutrients he needed. This meant that all of his meals were bland and consistent. For breakfast, he had an oversized bowl of oatmeal with plenty of fruit. He couldn't add sugar to it like he wanted, so he conceded to using fruit instead, even though he didn't really like fruit.

Today was Friday, so Joshua would be heading to school shortly. Scott could no longer go to classed, so he had a personal tutor for home schooling. She would be here at 9:00, assuming she wasn't ten minutes late like she was every other day. This meant that Joshua would often talk to Scott before going to the bus stop to be picked up.

Joshua has recently been trying to help Scott find out what was going on with him. Scott already knew all the things Joshua was telling him, the doctors had said it all several times before, but he still appreciated the thought so he simply let Joshua keep helping.

"Hi Scott! Are you still ok?"

Joshua used to ask Scott how he was every day. Scott would always reply with "Ok", which Joshua picked up on. Now he only asks if things are still ok, every day for the past eight months or so. Scott has yet to say no, including today.

"Yeah. Ready for school today?"

"Boy, am I! I studied for hours last night for my math test, I know I'll pass it! But what about your math test?"

"I'll do fine. Something you want to tell me?"

"I wish I did, but I spent my time studying. Nothing new I could find to help you. Did your hands or feet grow any bigger? You said they were doing that, right?"

"Uh, yeah. I checked this morning. My hand length is still twenty-four inches. My feet, though, they did get a little bigger. They're now...
