"Let's do the Pet one! Pleeeeease?" Judy said with fake puppy dog eyes.
"I don't want to play in some weird pet store! I already HAVE a dog. Or did. Mom and dad didn't really tell me what they were going to with Arisdogle when they were going on the trip."
"Aris...dogle" Eugene said while Lindsey face lit up with a barely constrained fit of giggles.
"Yeah, you know, the famous philosopher? Ari barks and whines a lot when you talk to her so we figured it was a great name. Plus, you know, Greek heritage and all that" Peter said matter-of-factly.
"Wait so you named a GIRL dog after a male philosopher?" Judy turned to look at her boyfriend, giving the jock a incredulous look before her brow scrunched in sudden realization, "Wait, so not only is the dog the wrong gender for the name but because SHE talks a lot? I feel like Lindsey and I should be insulted, Peter"
The athlete's eyes opened wise as he realized the mistake.
"Huh? Oh. OH. Uh, dad was, uh the one who gave her the name! IT WASN'T ME AHHHH" Peter yelled in mock horror as Judy clubbed him with one of the couch pillows. The silly exchange was all Lindsey needed to lose what little composure she had as she collapsed into a fit of high pitched giggling as she fell to her knees and leaned against Eugene, who imply blushed and looked away.
After the laughter had died down and Lindsey had taken a few breaths to calm the approaching hiccups, the group decided to take a vote, with Eugene abstaining as he didn't like either choice.
"All in favor of the Pet option?" Eugene asked, and watched as Judy and Lindsey's hands shot up, "All opposed?"
Peter raised his hand in defeat.
"Pets have it then. Okay, here we go..." Eugene gave Peter a conciliatory look and began typing in the command on the game machine's keyboard, pressing 'Enter', and then leaning back in surprise as two large black buttons popped out of the top of the machine's plastic casing.
"CHOOSE GAME MODE" The machine's synthetic voice blared.
"Oooh!" Lindsey said, leaning in to look at the intriguingly unique device and the two new buttons that read 'Traditional' and 'Immersive' on the tops in chipped white stenciling, "I, um, guess these like determine what mode we play in?"
"Obviously. Oof!" Peter said with a scoff, earning him a elbow to the ribs from the big breasted girl sitting next to him.
"Is there anything telling us what each one is like, Gene?" Judy asked, giving Peter a 'you earned that' stare before putting on her (drilled into her since birth) pleasant smile.
The flabby dork looked across the machine and then at the game's box, "No, just the rules from before. Traditional sounds like a normal board game and Immersive sounds like a tabletop game or something"
"I do think that would be easier for me and Pete...But I also really, really wanna see some cute puppies!" Judy's green eyes were sparkling in anticipation. She LOVED dogs.
"Well, let's vote again? That, like, seems to be a good way to solve things, right?" Lindsey looked at the group, returning her blank stare of sudden disillusionment before their faces became animated again.
"Yeah, let's vote"
The group polled themselves and it was decided that they would play in... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
