This choice: Cat finally stops beating around the bush—"Do you wanna... go out sometime?"  •  Go Back...
Chapter #4

Kitty Cat, Kitty Crush

    by: Mercer Author IconMail Icon
"Okay, you can do this..."

Keeley had no idea why she was feeling nervous. Cat was coming over, same as she had been doing for a while now. It was impossible to miss that pretty blonde baker as she made her way over, her approaching form caught by the glass panes. A box of goodies in her soft arms, no doubt some leftovers that were to be tossed into the trash(or that she had "sneaked", Cat had told her one time while playfully placing one pointer finger to her lips and winking at her) but were instead to be dumped into Keeley's growing pot of a belly.

And watching her as she approached, clutching that box like it was a treasured offering, her walk punctuated with a spring to her step, Keeley began to feel a crawling sense of dread she didn't expect. She was finally going to nudge Cat in Caleb's direction--

Oof, yeah, speaking of which, not only had he gotten mopier lately, but what was up with those sour little looks he was giving her whenever they talked about Cat? The hell did she do? Was he...Was he jealous over Cat giving her all those sweets and her attention? Yeesh, okay Caleb's got it bad, but still, yeesh, come on, guy...

Okay, back to the subject at hand. Who was just within reach of the Nest's doors.

Cat comes in. Keeley takes her goods--baked goods! Brownies! Cookies! Cupcakes! Doughnuts! Ugh, what was with her lately, it's like they hung out together, the more Keeley was noticing Cat more besides all the sweet treats she brought.

Could you blame her, Cat is very beautiful. Caleb is so lucky. Well, potentially lucky. Maybe not.

Still, what was this strange fear that was threatening to give her a little freak out?

Ah, the fear and ensuing guilt of watching Cat's big, pretty blue eyes droop with disappointment at best, well up with tears of betrayal at worst if she took what Keeley had to say the wrong way. Yeah, that had to be it. After all, how do you tell your new friend of...five days? Anyway, how do you tell her that you only approached her just to try and put in a word for her friend, who was crushing on her? Especially after said new friend has put so much effort in getting to know you, bringing you lots of heavenly, succulent sweets from her family bakery, and just...

"Oh...Oh Keeley!" Cat sobbed, big fat tears cascading down her round face, one hand on her chest, as though to keep her heart from breaking any further. "How could you?!" she ran out the door, her Cutie Pie's box falling down into a puddle on the road, where the raindrops came down upon it mercilessly.

God, this was very hard.

"Hiii, Keeley!"

Cat's melodic voice brought her to the here and now. Welp. Nothing to do but proceed on ahead.

"Heeeeey," Keeley said with what she hoped was not a deranged grin, waving a bit too eagerly.

Cat beamed at her, big blue eyes shining as she skipped over until she was face to face with her, divided only by the counter.

"Hi," the blonde said, unusually soft and bashful.

"Hi," Keeley parroted, feeling just the same.

Usually Cat would be be starting the conversation now, be it asking how her day was or what was that comic series over there or that. But today, for some reason, she was a lot more reserved. In fact, dare she say it, she looked nervous. She was even tapping the toe of her foot on the floor!

"I, err, made these," Cat tapped the box. "For you."

"Ah," Keeley said. "More uglies?"

"No!" Cat said quickly, then eep-ed, cheeks reddening as she repeated much more softly. "No, no, these are freshly-made. I made them myself. Been thinkin' of making this one batch, just for you."

Keeley felt herself grow warm in the chest. "Aww. You're the sweetest, Kitty-Cat. Although..."

With a small grimace, she traced a hand over her rounded middle. These jeans were never as snug as they were now. In fact, she was sure that if she so much as breathed in too much, the button was going to pop right off...

"I'm really starting to retain frosting. And chocolate. And glaze. At this rate I might be asking you to help roll me outta here when the day's done!" she laughed. The mental image of that was pretty funny, if a bit weird to think about. "What kind of friend would I be then?"

"Not a bad one at all, since I wouldn't mind," Cat's voice cut through her self-deprecating laughter. "In fact, I think chubby would be a great look for you."

"Ha!" Keeley snorted. Cat was just too sweet. "I think I might be going past chubby here if this keeps up!" she smiled. "Still, thank you. That's an incredibly nice thing to say."

Okay Keeley, come on. It's now or never. Do it for Caleb. For your chubby buddy boi!

Okay, but first, open the box, those smell delicious...

"I mean it," Cat smiled sincerely. "A little fluff or more, that means lots to love. More to cuddle."

"Wow, for real--oh theshe are sho ghood," Keeley chewed and swallowed her mouthful of cupcake. Caleb really was the luckiest nerd ever. Well, first she had to get Cat to look his way. "For real, you'd be the best girlfriend ever."

Cat positively beamed at that.

Okay, that's good. Now, bring Caleb into the conversation, nice and subtle...

"Any boy would be soooo lucky to have you."

"Oh, uhh," Cat's smile turned sheepish. "I, ahh, don't like boys."

"I feel you, boys can be, well, boys, but Caleb is..."

Wait, what?

"...wait, what?" Keeley blinked. And again. And again. She tried to say something, but her mind came up blank. "Uhhh..."

"Yeah, I've, umm, never really...swung that way," Cat shifted, her big breasts bouncing along to her little movement.

Keeley blinked. "So you're..."

"Gay, yes."

Keeley blinked. "You like..."

"Yes," Cat's smile went from bashful to amused, one blonde eyebrow raised very suggestively.

It was a miracle Keeley didn't give herself a seizure with all the blinking she was doing. Or with what a whirlwind her mind was right now.

Cat didn't like boys.

Caleb had been looking pretty down every time he came back from Cutie Pie's.

Cat didn't like boys.

Cat had been coming over to see her, talk to her, feed her sweets, be it at work, at her apartment...

Cat didn't like boys.

“All the girls do.” Cat winked as she lowered a cupcake into Keeley’s mouth, “After all, what’s better than two cute girls and chocolate? Am I right?”

Cat. Didn't. Like. Boys.

"Keeley?"

"Huh-uh-wha?" she said intelligently, brought back to the world by Cat's concerned voice and her hand on her arm.

"You okay?"

Wow, those big blue eyes were big. With so much concern. Adoration. Keeley's heart did a flip.

Oh.

"Y-Yeah, I'm...!" Keeley forced a grin on her burning face. "I'm good! Sorry, guess I was just...processing."

"Oh, well," here Cat shrunk a little on herself. "Now that that's out in the open, I was wonderin'..."

She closed her eyes, took a sharp breath through her nose, and popped her eyes open again. "Would you, maybe, wanna...go out sometime?"

Keeley let the silence hang in the air a moment before responding. "Go out. As in, like a...a date?"

"Yes," Cat giggled softly. "Not a Not-Date. An actual date. You and me."

You and me.

Keeley felt that odd warmth in her chest escalate, not helped by the shy, flirty smile Cat was giving her. It was like the world had gone deaf, and all she could hear was her own heartbeat. No matter what she said, one thing was for certain; Caleb was in for some bad news.

After what felt like an eternity, Keeley finally found her voice.

She looked right into Cat's beautiful baby blues, and said...
