Somewhere beyond earshot, but still somewhat nearby, a figure awoke with a start from their slumber within a flowerbed. Rubbing her crystal-blue eyes, Glissa gathered herself and tried to comprehend the strange thing she sensed mere moments ago.
Like any of the other wood nymphs residing within this vast woodland, she had an intangible connection with the wildlife—both plant and animal—that made its home here. It was not unusual for sensations to come and go, depending on the feelings projected by the many entities surrounding her. Even trees had feelings; they were easy to distinguish due to their size and enduring presence, but what emanated from them was actually quite mild—and if Glissa had to admit it, mostly bland. What could one expect of the emotional range of a tree after all?
This however, had been on another level. It had only lasted a matter of seconds, and while she was normally even more attuned to the forest while asleep, she had never experienced anything like this. It was similar to the bliss she felt from the trees during a nice spring rain, but magnified a hundred times over. She even faintly recalled a brief dream about rising high in the air and catching sight of the tops of every other tree for miles around.
Coming to her feet, Glissa took a moment to focus her own senses to see if she could still pinpoint the source. Though she didn’t perceive any immediate danger, anything out of the ordinary was worth investigating; this was her part of the forest after all. Sure enough, a singular presence seemed to draw her toward it, consistently radiating the same energy that had jolted her awake before, though much more muted now. With her direction set, she pranced off into the night in search of this mystery.
Meanwhile, Lendriss’ patience, which she always considered herself to have an abundance of, was wearing razor-thin. With the aid of conjured candlelight encircling them on the ground, she watched Fayetta continue to dangle the half-full vial of potion just out of her reach.
“What’s wrong, Miss Bony-Butt? Too high for you?” Fayetta giggled shrilly. “Too bad you didn’t drink some of this when you had the chance! It might have helped even your spindly frame!”
Lendriss glared back at the buxom pixie. “Normally, I have nothing but respect for all creatures of the forest, but you are on my last nerve! I didn’t want to have to do this, but...”
Aiming her index finger at her target, Lendriss focused a simple repulsion spell at its tip, then released it. The spell struck true, blasting Fayetta back and separating the vial from her grasp. Reflexively, the elf dove and caught the potion before it hit the ground, miraculously keeping all its contents safely contained.
Normally, even a small-scale spell like that would have sent Fayetta careening out of control several yards away, but at her new size—or perhaps, she considered, a newly-enhanced magical power level—she only spiraled a few feet from her original position and was able to recover quickly. Her advantage was lost however, as Lendriss now held the potion securely in her hand.
“There, that’s more like it,” she nodded approvingly, glancing again at the vial to make sure it wasn’t damaged. “Such a unique sample would be wasted in your possession,” she added, throwing a contemptuous glance at the pixie. “This requires further study, and I won’t have you interfe—huh?”
She didn’t get the chance to finish her thought before a series of wiry branches suddenly sprung from the ground and latched themselves around her wrists. She tried to move her arms in response and dislodge herself, but to no avail. Luckily, she still maintained her grip on the vial.
“Interloper!” A voice called out from the darkness. “What business do you have in my forest, and what have you done to this tree!?”
Emerging into view was someone resembling a teenaged girl, with slightly greenish-tinted skin, bright blonde curly hair, and wearing nothing except for a branch curved gracefully around her chest and hips, and a circlet of small, purple flowers resting on her head. Though she was a few inches shorter than Lendriss, the elf subconsciously seethed at how well-developed her figure was, especially her bust.
“I am merely passing through, nymph,” Lendriss replied defensively, but maintaining her calm. “If you want to know what happened, ask the flying imp behind me. Now, if you wouldn’t mind releasing me, I promise I’ll be on my way.” She smiled inwardly in anticipation. “I have much more pressing matters to attend to anyway, though I wouldn’t mind making my way back here soon to study the potion’s effects on the local flora.”
Glissa inclined her head in curiosity as she looked past Lendriss to the floating figure behind her. It looked very much like a pixie but it was the largest pixie she had ever seen—in more ways than one. Fayetta however, only shrugged and smiled innocently, yet another classic pixie move. They were common enough sights in the forest and nymphs naturally paid them no mind, but elves were another matter, at least in this part of the world. Still, Glissa had to get to the bottom of this, especially the strange, pleasant sensations she was picking up from this tree, much more vivid now that she was near it. “What did she do to you, my beauty? And why are you so happy...and so much bigger than before?”
“As guardian of this region, I demand you tell me what’s going on!” Glissa turned back to Lendriss, trying to look menacing even though she had to look up at her.
While Lendriss had learned much about the art of speechcraft from her merchant parents, she was in no mood to talk any further right now. Tired from her interrupted sleep, frazzled from her dealings with the pixie, and preoccupied with the amazing effects she had witnessed from the potion, she had finally had enough. Rolling her eyes, she channeled more magic into each hand and fired a quick spark of flame at the base of her brush bindings. It was enough to sever them from the ground and release their hold. She peeled them off and turned to walk away, but Glissa stepped in front of her.
“Where do you think you’re go—hey!” Glissa protested as Lendriss reflexively pushed her aside, perhaps a little harder than intended. Unprepared, Glissa stumbled back, nearly tripping and falling over one of the tree’s roots before catching herself by grabbing its trunk. Immediately, a bizarre shiver passed through her arm and into the rest of her body, causing her to gasp loudly in surprise. It was enough for Lendriss to stop and frown back at her in confusion.
Regaining control over her momentarily weakened limbs, Glissa stepped forward again until she was toe-to-toe with the elf, an odd feeling of confidence welling up inside her. “I said...where do you think you’re—unf—going!?”
The last word of that sentence came out in a deeper tone as her body instantly shot up and out several inches, passing Lendriss and giving her a faceful of her inflated breasts. The suddenly too-small branch stretched across her torso audibly groaned under the strain, no longer covering her in any innocent way. Now it was the elf’s turn to stumble back, but not before giving a quick muffled cry into the flesh pressed against her mouth. Falling onto her rear end, she looked up in amazement as the rest of the nymph’s six-foot body reacted, tightening up in toned rows of muscle now making a slightly more visible impression against her skin. Her golden locks of hair lengthened a few inches further down her shoulders and even the blossoms on her flowery tiara seemed to expand and deepen in hue. Fayetta, still watching from a hovering position a few feet away, stifled another giggle.
Glissa looked over her frame in a mixture of awe and bewildered at the changes, reaching up to cup her enhanced assets. “Well, that was...interesting,” she admitted, before refocusing her attention on Lendriss. “But anyway, you and I have some unfinished business.”
Raising a hand, she summoned more bindings to trap the elf, but now, much thicker branches responded and surrounded Lendriss’ entire torso, squeezing her helpless limbs tightly against it. Glissa paused briefly, unprepared for the boost in her nature magic, but then gazed down and crossed her fit arms across her plentiful bosom, this time appearing genuinely intimidating.
“Now, tell me everything that happened, and what exactly is that glowing pink water you’re holding in your hand?”
