Chapter #6

The Elf’s Proposition

As Lendriss continued to cling to Fayetta’s cuticle for dear life, her natural problem-solving instincts finally began to kick in. Ok, she still seems distracted now with her new body, and I may not get another chance I could roll off and make a break for it, but I need to make sure to run in a direction perpendicular to her—

Her thought process was interrupted—and, as it turned out, rendered moot—as she felt herself rising rapidly into the air along with the rest of Fayetta’s foot. Two fingertips, each almost as big as her, reached down from above her and delicately picked her up by the back of her nightgown, which she had completely forgot she was still wearing. Her elevation continued to climb until she found herself face to face with the blonde-haired behemoth, studying her critically with her vibrant gaze.

“I thought I felt something on my foot,” Fayetta mused, peering at Lendriss like she was a specimen in a terrarium. “What are you still doing here?”

Ugh, no! Let…go! Please?” Lendriss struggled meaninglessly in the titaness pixie’s grip, remembering at the last moment that a stern tone had backfired before, and could very well do so again.

“Y’know, I seem to remember you calling me a ‘little pest’ just a moment ago.” Fayetta smiled, the mischievous glint in her eye much more frightening at this scale. “Why shouldn’t I just crush you between my boobs?”

Lendriss looked down in horror as Fayetta dangled her precariously over her cavernous cleavage. The mage had often prided herself in finding unique solutions to seemingly difficult predicaments, and now certainly qualified, but she would have to find one extremely quickly. “Because you need me!” she blurted out.

“What could I possibly need from you?” Fayetta scoffed, though she retained her grip on the elf. “I can have anything I want now!”

Lendriss took a breath to calm herself. “Didn’t you see what was going on while you were becoming the size of a mountain? Your magic was out of control! Pixies have always had a special kind of magic—we call it chaos magic, but scholars still don’t completely understand its power. Still, like any magic wielder, the first step to understanding it is to learn how to control it.”

“What are you talking about?” Fayetta turned and placed Lendriss at the edge a cliff. “I’ve always been able to control my magic!”

Lendriss had to take another breath to recover from the sudden motion—a simple gesture for the pixie, but her own body had accelerated to several miles per hour in a brief second. “Yes, when you were an inch tall. A pixie’s power has always been especially potent relative to their size, hence why they’re still able to affect those of my size to an extent. But now…there’s no telling how powerful you are, and that much power can be unstable. You wouldn’t want to accidentally b—”

She caught herself before saying “blow yourself up”, given the different meanings of the phrase. She didn’t want to give the pixie any ideas, especially one so potentially apocalyptic.

“…vaporize yourself, now would you?” she finished quickly.

Fayetta frowned inclining her head warily as she put her hands on her hips, but she didn’t respond.

“Don’t believe me?” Lendriss pressed. “Fine. How about you try, say, encasing one of those trees in ice?”

She pointed toward the forest below the cliff face near Fayetta’s feet. Fayetta followed her gesture and gave a smug smirk. “Pff, too easy!”

She extended her own finger toward the forest, causing the air around it to ripple in a similar manner as she had casually done before. When the ripple subsided, the entire forest had ignited in flame.

Fayetta’s smirk faded. “Wait, just…” she rotated her wrist and another ripple formed. The flames were instantly extinguished, but the trees were now purple and covered with yellow spots.

“Uh, maybe if I…” she crooked her finger slightly and the forest morphed into a pile of cows, muttering confused bellows as they tripped and rolled over themselves.

“Gah, dammit!” the air shook with the pixie’s exclamation as she waved her hand in frustration, wiping the entire area from existence. A deep crater was all that stood there now, a conspicuous bald patch amidst the rest of the surrounding trees.

“See what I mean?” Lendriss spoke calmly after a few moments, sitting at the cliff’s edge. “Now obviously I’m not remotely as powerful as you, but elves have centuries of knowledge and experience when it comes to magic. I could help you refine your capabilities and truly become the most powerful being on the planet.”

Fayetta was silent as she considered her words, but a nagging feeling began to build within her. This is stupid. I become a goddess and this elf still thinks she can order me around?

“You’re full of crap!” Fayetta turned to face Lendriss, her voice causing her to stumble back. “I can still control myself, and I’ll prove it by turning you into a lizard!”

She extended her finger once again as Lendriss froze in terror, with truly no idea what would happen next…
