Stranded in Blight Manor

“Luz, I really want to meet with you today but I’m grounded. My mom’s not happy with me so I’m stuck at home for a week. I’m really sorry.” That was the message sent by Amity a few hours ago. It was easy to forget that even though they’ve done pretty dangerous stuff and made it out unscathed, they were still kids and kids weren’t free of consequences. Being grounded was certainly one of them.

The worst part was waiting it out. Luz really wanted to hang out with her today, she didn’t have a concrete plan for how they’re gonna spend the day but just the two of them together was enough. The message really bummed her out, but she wasn’t gonna let a message stop her from seeing her awesome girlfriend. Was this a bad idea? Maybe, but she was way too committed to think otherwise.

It was late at night when her stealth mission kicked off. Luz remembered the path she took to the Blight Manor and did her best to get there without any witnesses around. Luckily it didn’t seem like anyone was around to stop her outside, but she had to be extremely careful regardless. She crawled near the bushes under one of the windows and made it to the purple doors that made the entrance to the manor.

“No turning back now.” Luz whispered to herself and pulled out a paper with a glyph drawn on it. From experimentation, she combined a light glyph in a ring with two ice glyphs with another light in the center, creating the invisibility glyph. It certainly worked before, all she had to do was hold her breath. Without wasting a single second, she placed the glyph on her chest and knocked on the door.

The door opened and right before her was an Abomination. Even if the bow tie made it look a little presentable, it always looked a little slimy and seemed like it’ll fall apart before her eyes. Its green eyes looked straight at her but didn’t even see her at all thanks to the invisibility glyph. Instead it turned its head a few times and decided no one was around, so it started to leave and close the door. Luz’s foot was able to intercept and keep the door just a bit open for her to squeeze through, then she shut it behind her.

When the abomination walked away, Luz exhaled. The spell wore off as expected and the easy part was over. Now she had to get to Amity’s room.

“So far so good. Better not mess this up.” She reminded herself and started tip toeing through the small hallway. She didn’t want her steps to be heard on the wooden floorboards so she was close to the walls where a few small portraits were scattered about, most of them depicting Abominations in fancy attire. She didn’t know why but she might ask Amity later.

She peeked her head and noticed she was about to enter the lobby. That seemed like a good a time as any to use her glyph again. She went invisible and walked forward. The place looked just as fancy as it could be with a painting of the Blight family hanging over the fire pit, and some more pictures on the walls. She was standing on a carpet which thankfully masked the noise of her steps. The only bits of light she was granted was through the windows, other than that everything was a bit dark.

When the coast was clear, she exhaled as quietly as she could. She didn’t want to waste time here, she needed to move before another Abomination decided to show up and catch her. Luckily she heard some more footsteps coming and was ready to go invisible again.

This time however, she felt like there were ropes wrapping around her skin. She held her breath regardless of the weird feeling just when Emira Blight, Amity’s older sister, walked in. She looked a bit tired but didn’t seem like she was interested in sleeping, perhaps planning to stay up for a hobby of her own. With her scroll’s light illuminating the way, she walked towards a different door. Judging by the light smell coming through, it must’ve been the kitchen.

Luz was alone again, but she felt incredibly odd once she was breathing normally again. It was like she had some kind of sunburn, it hurt to move a bit but not too much or else she’d scream. This didn’t happen to her before, at least it shouldn’t be happening. Was this some side effect of overusing the glyph?

“Ow. Come on, Luz. Just make it through that door and you’ll be-“ before she could even take a step forward, the door behind her opened. Ignoring the increasing pain, she used the glyph and was invisible once more. Just in time too since Amity’s mom appeared with her face looking as stern as ever..

The light from the windows certainly made her look menacing as she walked through the lobby, almost bumping into the invisible girl while glancing at the clock nearby, then went to the stairs leading to the upper floors. Luz was lucky not to make any noise while discovering the path to Amity’s room, it didn’t stop her from noticing something weird. Was everything starting to get bigger than her?

When Odalia passed her by, Luz noticed that she seemed a little taller than before and could only look up to her motionless elbows. In fact she seemed to be growing larger by the second, no wait that wasn’t true because the whole lobby started to grow as big as her. Luz looked down, the carpet was becoming as wide as the sea and only then did she realize what was happening to her. She panicked and gasped for breath, she was visible again but that didn’t matter, at least not to a girl currently about an inch or two tall.

“OH NO NO NO! WHAT HAPPENED?!” Luz was almost small enough to be hidden away in the carpet, her head just barely sticking out of it. The darkness had swallowed most of the room with only the light of the window to help guide her through. The other parts of the lobby stuck out like towers, tall enough that it’d take about seven ladders or more to even reach the top of anything. The bright side to all of this was that she didn’t feel any more pain, that must’ve been from the repeated use of her glyph.

The tiny Luz tried to calm herself though seeing everything bigger than her didn’t make it easy. “This is really bad. But you can handle this, Luz. You’ve been tiny before, this shouldn’t be so hard. You can make it to Amity this way, it’s only just…harder than before, this’ll be a piece of cake!” She was lying to herself, but it made her feel a little better.

At least she knew where the stairs were, all she had to do was run towards them and climb each step up to Amity’s room. It sounded incredibly easy to her, but of course it wasn’t anywhere close to easy. And the worst part wasn’t even that, it was the footsteps that proved how much trouble she was in. Luz fell to her knees and felt a looming presence before her. The tiny Luz looked up in fear at the arrival of…
