Chapter #6

Easy Prey

    by: MightyHalberd Author IconMail Icon
For the first time in centuries, Morinth had been outmaneuvered.

When she arranged transportation with some Blue Suns mercenaries off of Illium, she had expected her mother to be in hot pursuit, perhaps even to catch up to her for a fleeting moment. She certainly hadn't expected her to be backed up by a presumed dead Spectre and her entourage. All her guile and cunning failed her, and it was only good fortune and perhaps the kindness of the Goddess herself that she was able to drag her bleeding body to an escaping freighter. Thus instead of heading to Omega to search for some new prey, she found herself holed up in a cold, miserable little rock on the edge of Turian space, far from where her mother or any of her lackeys could reach her.

Suffice it to say, she despised this place. Sure it was technically a city and she was able to hide out in relative comfort, but against the utopian sprawl of the asari megacities, it was a backwater at best. Nothing cultural, nothing aesthetic, just a ugly gunmetal-gray blotch on the bleached snow, possessing nothing but bureaucrats and bored guards as far as the eye could see. But it was populated enough to find some suitable prey, and it didn't take long to find a delectable young woman to pursue, a logistics secretary by the name of Calitina.

"Sorry it's a bit of a mess," the shy young turian confessed as Morinth stepped into the cozy little apartment.

"I don't mind at all, I'm just happy to get away from all that noise," Morinth chuckled, flinching as something small and feathered dashed by her legs and ran to hide under an old sofa, half-filled with a pile of folded laundry. "I don't think he likes me," she said, regarding the small creature.

"He's just shy, I'm sure he'll warm up to you," Calitina laughed awkwardly. Sensing an opening in the silence hanging between them, Morinth drew in a little closer, readying herself to take charge and introduce this remarkable woman to the experience of a lifetime before the turian nervously broke away. "I uh...you said you were interested in my art, yes?"

Morinth masked her immense displeasure with a smile. "Of course," she said as sweetly as she could muster.

"Okay, take a seat at the table and I'll show you!"

Watching Calitina dash around the corner into the kitchen as she sat down, Morinth pulled an irritable face. She'd always had trouble trying to dominate the minds of Turians with her abilities, and she'd hoped that this one would have been less resilient. No matter, she assured herself. It was more enjoyable to lure her prey in with her charm anyway, and she was eager to see what sort of artistry this shy little turian possessed. Distracted by the thought of what was to come, Morinth nearly jumped when Calitina suddenly reappeared and slammed down something in front of Morinth. Staring down she realized it was some sort of cooked fish.

"Ka'qun meatfish, tough to prepare, but really tasty," Calitina said proudly. "Go ahead, try it."

Morinth was deeply confused. Wasn't she supposed to be showing off her art? Still, taking the fork from Calitina's hand, she cautiously took a bite. A little gamey, but oddly sweet for seafood. Morinth quickly took another bite before she could stop herself to talk. "Not...not bad at all.." she managed to get out, choking a little on the second bite.

"Thanks. Glad there's someone on this iceball with an appreciation for the culinary arts," the turian chuckled. "Ooh, I have something else you'd like!" Watching her latest prey vanish into the kitchen again, Morinth let out a disappointed sigh. The one and only being in this part of the galaxy with a modicum of creative energy to consume, and she was a damned cook! It was hardly even worth the effort of pursuing someone with such a lowly passion, but since she was already here, might as well finish the job.

Which she couldn't really do when the excitable turian girl was happily shoving plates in front of her.

"So, these are Soorian oxo-noodles, was meant to be a Krogan-made dish," Calitina rattled off "Didn't really become a staple as expected, but it's rather bold and savory for Krogan cuisine. I tweaked it a bit with some extra spices here and there, and of course some Asari honeywine really does wonders for it too, brings the whole dish together, and-"

Morinth was too busy taking a delicate bite of the new dish to listen to the turian rambling about cooking, and again, it was pretty good. She took a few bites as Calitina rambled, until her fork scraped against an empty plate.

"Wow, you must be hungry," Calitina said. "Ooh, I know, there's this human dish I've been wanting to take a crack at, something really luxurious from what I heard. I think humans call it a 'chi steak'."

Well, Morinth thought glumly as she watched the turian chef vanish behind the wall again, she'll have to run out of dishes eventually.

---

"Oooooh......gluuuh...."

Morinth staggered out of the front door of the apartment, bracing herself against the doorway as she took a few deep breaths. Feeling a bout of nausea, she clamped a hand over her mouth, cradling her bulging belly with the other. Trying to ignore the growing tightness around her middle, she let out a small hiccup as she felt a hand on her shoulder.

"Thanks a lot for coming over," Calitina said. "Wish you could stay longer, but I have a meeting to get to. Think we could do this again sometime tomorrow?"

Morinth buried her intense discomfort and her pure, unbridled fury at being too stuffed with her damned cooking to even think about mating, and gave a slight nod, allowing herself to blush as Calitina's mandibles brushed her cheek with a kiss. Morinth was sure they said goodbye at some point, when she was feeling foggy from how overstuffed she was, but right now she just wanted to get back to her base and sleep this off.

"Uh, is everything alright ma'am?" a concerned civilian said when he saw the asari stumbling down the sidewalk. Morinth made the mistake of opening her mouth to respond, accidentally letting out a sharp little belch. The civilian, no doubt trying to be polite, quietly walked off without another word, leaving Morinth standing there feeling stupid and embarrassed.

"That turian..." Morinth seethed, trying to stop herself from passing out. "...will...PAY...for this...humiliation...." Thus she resolved to enact some petty revenge on this girl before taking her like all the others, but little did she know...
