There’s something almost “delicate” about Ensign T’Laba.
Not that you doubt she lacks the customary Vulcan physical endurance. Or that she could easily toss you across the room if she had a desire to.
But T’Laba looks as unVulcan as a Vulcan can look and still be a Vulcan.
T’Lana’s ancestors were earlier followers of Surak, and fled Vulcan when they thought it was on the verge of self-destruction. T’Laba’s ancestors took a multigenerational prewarp ship and settled on a world they named Sochya Ha-kel (“Peaceful Home”).
Sochya Ha-kel was rediscovered soon after the founding of the Federation, and was brought back into the Vulcan fold. However, there are still some distinct differences between the two populations. The Vulcan facial characteristics of Vulcans from Sochya Ha-kel are not as pronounced as are those of Vulcans from the home world. As denizens of Sochya Ha-kel embrace IDIC more thoroughly than those on the Vulcan home world. So the “bowl” haircut you see on most Vulcans serving in Starfleet are rarely seen on Vulcans from Sochya Ha-kel. Ensign T’Laba usually wear her long hair in a bun.
By all accounts, Ensign T’Laba is a brilliant physician and applied mathematician. Scuttlebutt is that her slight deviation from the Vulcan homeworld norm is what got her sent to a California class starship.
