"Minccino?!" Patrick called out as he saw a Minccino running in the fields. One of the partner pokemon that he had been separated from had been a Minncino, one that he had been with since he was a child. The thought of her alone back at his camp, wondering where he had gone, had led to more than a few sleepless nights.
"Huh?" The Minncino said, surprised that she was called out to.
"Are you sure she's the one you want to travel with?" asked Professor Laverton. "She's been returned by two other trainers."
"That's because neither of those knuckle heads knew what they were doing!" Minncino interjected. "That first guy just threw me at pokemon while he hid in the grass and expected me to do all the work. Then that other guy decided he'd complete his pokedex by capturing pokemon. So he had me pounding away at trees and rocks until I could barely stand!" If looks could kill, then the glare she was sending Professor Laverton's way definitely would have.
"I'm sorry to hear that, I promise that if you come with me that won't happen." Patrick said.
"Tsk, and why should I believe you?" Minncino asked, giving him a doubtful look.
"Well he did catch a few of the pokemon that ran off the day he arrived; he didn't show any hesitation when he approached them." Professor Laverton supplied.
"Wait, you're that guy?" Minncino asked.
"You heard about me?" Patrick asked.
"We talk to each other, and you definitely made quite the impression. Most of these guys will ran at the sight of a Bidoof, much less try to catch them." Minncino then started to adopt a thoughtful look, examining Patrick as she weighed up weather or not she should go with him. "You promise that you're not going to use me right?"
"We'll be partners, I promise. I'll need your help fighting and getting crafting resources, but I won't work you to death and take charge during the battles." Patrick said, reaching a hand out over the fence to the Minncino.
She still looked at his hand skeptically, before jumping on his arm and running up to his shoulder. Patrick and Professor Lavander both flinched, the Professor actually tripping over his own feet. Patrick however just looked at her in surprise, letting out a small chuckle as he found her antic amusing. "You're really not afraid of me, are you?" She asked.
"How could I possible be afraid of someone as cute as you?" Patrick asked, reaching out a hand and scratching her the same way he scratched his Minncino. She had look of bliss as she leaned into his affection, the same way his had always done.
"I don't believe it." Professor Lavander breathed, interrupting their moment. "She just climbed up your arm and you're acting like it's normal, aren't you afraid she's going to bite you or worse?"
"Nope." Patrick said without a secound thought. "I trust her completely."
"Well then, I guess that's that then." The professor said, getting back on his feet. "Here's her pokeball and I wish the two of you the best of luck." With that the professor walks away to head back to his lab.
"Well then, want to head out then?" Patrick asked.
"Sure, might as well see what you got." Minncino said, getting comfortable on his shoulder. With that, the two of them headed out to see what adventures laid before them.
