He tried patting its cheek and shaking his old body in an attempt to wake Elaine up. He's at least hoping it's Elaine. There was a sure-fire way of figuring out if it was Elaine who was residing in his body. But was he really going to have to resort to that? Well, the Spriggan wasn't that desperate to wake up his former body. The fixer could always carry it on his back and head out of the subway.
There was just one problem...
His eyes went down to look at his bountiful fruits, blushing with a scowl that didn't suit the pretty face of the Sword Maiden. Just staring at them... Ugh, Van could already imagine how much of a pain it'll be to get back to the surface while he's in his childhood friend's body.
The dark-haired fixer released a feminine groan as he slowly lifted the head of his old body, soft pink lips leaning to its ear as he whispered.
"Wake up, Elaine. You're going to miss the Mishy show if you keep sleeping."
Suddenly, the eyes of his old frame snapped open as his body sat up, eyes frantic.
"Mishy?! Why didn't you wake me up sooner—" The one who was in possession of Van's body stopped himself, soon covering his mouth in shock at the sight in front of him. "Why is my face... no! Why do I sound like Van?!"
Good, he did switch with Elaine. He still wasn't sure if that was a good thing... It definitely beats switching with an eldritch monstrosity, though. The Spriggan saw the panic and confusion of the former woman. Sighing, he started to stroke his old locks. His, or technically Elaine's touch, seemed to ease her up a bit.
"Calm down, Elaine." He advised coolly as the Maiden took in deep breaths, slowly regaining her composure. "I'm sure you can guess how we ended up like this."
Elaine's lips curled downward, crossing her now muscular arms. It didn't take much thinking on her part to piece everything together. With a sigh of her own, she got up and so did Van.
"Yes. I apologize for rushing in recklessly and causing us to end up in this situation. I should have been more careful, but I ended up attacking that orb that lead us to switch bodies..." The regret that colored her visage stirred something inside Van, something that made his chest feel tight.
"Hey, don't blame yourself for that. You didn't know any better, it's not your fault that we swapped." Van only had a bad feeling about striking the orb of the monster. He didn't know what would happen if it was struck. Swapping bodies with his childhood friend was the last thing he thought would happen, though.
"Still..." Another sigh. Before Elaine could beat herself up over the incident further, Van poked her forehead, giving his childhood friend a half-lidded gaze.
"Stop that. What's done is done, no need to continue blaming yourself for what happened. Let's just figure out how to fix this together." His visage softened as warmth filled his eyes. Elaine stared at her old face, dumbfounded before her lips broke out into a smile.
"Okay, Van..." The Spriggan helped the Sword Maiden up, both feeling each other squeeze their hand. "Let's head back up. It seems like we have to do each other's respective reports for the time being."
"Yup." Van nodded, walking up to the suitcase that lay on the ground. Good thing it was still here. "Guess you'll have to give this to my client." The fixer tossed the item to his old body, the former woman catching the metallic case with a deadpan frown.
"As much as I would like to refuse, I can't. Very well, I'll do what I can to act like you when I give my report." The Spriggan flashed a smug smirk. His smugness didn't last long when he felt Elaine emitting a murderous aura from his old body. A glare so cold that he would have been frozen in place thrice. "I'll only ask you once and you better answer me honestly, Van. D-Did you touch my body... weirdly?" She asked with an embarrassed blush.
Oh, Aidios, he knew what she was talking about. The fixer swallowed an uncomfortable lump in his throat as he stepped back out of habit, looking away in guilt.
"Okay, I'll admit I touched your... chest. But that was only because I just woke up and I couldn't believe what I saw, okay! I'm sorry!" He quickly defended, waving his hands in defense with pink dusting his cheeks. There was no use lying to Elaine, she will figure out if he's lying. And no matter how much he tries to switch the words up, Van groped Elaine's chest.
The fixer could feel her deadly glare while he continued to avert his gaze. Footsteps rang across the subway as they got closer and closer to the Spriggan. He steeled himself for punishment, but it never came. Van slowly opened his eyes to see Elaine, blushing slightly while her orbs were on the ground.
"W-What are your thoughts...?" Her voice was soft and almost inaudible, but Van still picked it up. A blush of his own rose from his visage. Unsure whether it was a test or not, Van responded with the most vague answer he could think of at the moment.
"They're... nice."
...
A brief silence took place as the pair of childhood friends turned as red as a carnelia gem.
Van cleared her throat, turning away to face the bracer with his back. He extended his gloved hand, offering it to his childhood friend without directly meeting her gaze.
"Sorry... Let's just get going."
"R-Right..."
The Sword Maiden took the hand of her former body, intertwining their fingers as the two started their departure.
