Chapter #6

Finding of the Fae

by: Johnny Foxx Author IconMail Icon
Just outside the fence surrounding the farm, there was an empty stretch of field. Recently, Robert began experimenting with raising free range humans, and would allow some of the younger ones to play in the field, even building a small playground for them. Each child had a tracker clasped around their ankle, in case they wandered off or worse.

One such child was Nathan, a boy of around nine who preffered to be alone rather than socialize. As he sat in the shade of nearby tree watching the others, he thought he could hear a feint voice on the wind. It sounded desperate, as though whoever it was was calling for help. He stood and followed the voice, before finding its source, though he couldn't believe his eyes.

There, caught in a spiderweb, struggling to get free, was a tiny girl in a dress of leaves with butterfly wings, no more than two inches tall. Nathan reached out and plucked her from the web. "You can see me?" The girl asked astonished. "Of course I see you." Nathan replied "Why wouldn't I?"

"Most Non-Fae types can't see or hear my kind."

"Fae? You mean you're a fairy?"

The girl nodded. "Thank you so much for rescuing me, by the way! I thought I was doomed for sure!" "You're welcome. So, I guess you'll go back wherever your home is, now?"

"Oh no! Since you saved me from that web, just to show how grateful I am, I'll grant you three wishes. Any thing you want at all!"

"I thought only genies did that?"

"Pfft. Those snobs are too stuck up to care about anyone besides themselves. So, what do you want to wish for first?"

"I...am not sure. Can I have some time to think on it?"

"Of course! I'll just hang around until you decide. Odds are no one else will even notice me, anyway. "

Nathan began making his way back to the field. "By the way, what's your name?" He asked "You can call me Moxi. What about you?"

"Nathan."

By the time Nathan and Moxi reached the field, it was almost time to return to the farm.
