Chapter #4

Valerie Baker

    by: BeeJay Author IconMail Icon
Hi. My name's Valerie Baker. I'm 17.

My folks have been married since college. I have a 14-year-old sister, Sienna. When she told us she was trans, we hugged it out, Mom took her shopping, and I gave her tips on girlhood, like any big sister.

One word you could definitely use to describe me is shy. Heading into my senior year, I only had a couple of friends, and none of them were guys. Girls who've seen me naked tell me that I look good, and that they can't believe I haven't gone out with anyone yet.

Sienna, on the other hand, is tremendously outgoing. She made a ton of friends, before and after transitioning. As she got ready for high school, she wasn't too much into sports, so she was spared those headaches; but she had enough friends to run interference for her if she was using the girls' room and some weirdo wanted to start trouble. The only way she was like me socially was that, while she had a boy she was sweet on, she hadn't told him yet; she knew him before she transitioned, and she might have thought it might be awkward between them.

But you're not here for all that; you're here to find out how and why I found myself spending my senior year pregnant.

******************************

It all started at the end of a big trip my family took, just before the start of the school year. We were heading home, looking forward to sleeping in our own beds, when we suddenly had a blowout. Dad kept control of the car, and we limped into the parking lot of the Stardust Hotel. As we went inside, Dad asked, "I don't suppose you have anyone on hand who can change a tire, do you?"

"He's not on duty until morning," the desk clerk replied. "Sorry."

"I expected that; still, it never hurts to ask. At least I know I won't have to drive all over town on a spare. How much for a room for four for the night?"

The desk clerk looked us over, and smiled. "I can cut you folks a break: It's a slow night, and we have several vacancies. I can give you and your wife a room, and give each of your daughters their own rooms, at no extra charge. How does that sound?"

Needless to say, it sounded good, and Dad took him up on it. We followed the bellhop to our rooms, and gave him a generous tip for his trouble. Then, we went into our rooms, and I quickly got ready for bed and fell asleep.

That night, I had the strangest dream. I was lying in bed, and a ball of light, about the size of a basketball, passed through the wall and into my room. It floated there for a moment, then shot a beam of light directly at me. I began floating above my bed, as rainbows of light flowed over my eyes. Then, the beam lowered me to the bed again, and the ball of light left my room, passing through the wall again.

Like I said, it was a wild dream.

What else could it be?
