Chapter #4Sneezing Shrink by: BeeJay My name is Kelly Newcomb. I'm 14.
My story starts a couple days before the start of the school year. I was walking through the mall with my friends, enjoying the last few days of freedom, when I felt someone sneeze on me.
I turned around, expecting to have words with the person responsible; however, when I turned, there was nobody there. Baffled, I shrugged and went on with what I was doing.
If I had known then what I know now, I would have been able to see the person who sneezed on me, just by looking down.
******************************
On the morning of my first day of high school, I was bothered by this peculiar tickle in my nose. You know that feeling where you can feel a sneeze building, but it just won't come? Like that.
After my third time blowing my nose at the breakfast table, Mom asked, "Don't you feel alright, Sweetie?"
"I'm okay for the most part," I replied. "But there's this tickle in my nose, and I can't seem to get rid of it."
Mom put her hand on my forehead. "Well, you don't have a fever. You're still going to school."
"If you do have to cough or sneeze," Dad added, "do it in the crook of your elbow. No sense spreading it to anyone else."
******************************
My first class of the day was Composition. The teacher started us out by saying, "Let's take a moment to introduce ourselves to each other. Each of you will stand up, introduce yourself by name, and tell us a little bit about yourself."
I was halfway through my introduction when that tickle in my nose finally became a sneeze. I felt a little embarrassed when, after all that build-up, what came out was just a little sound, like when a cat sneezes. Nevertheless, I did it into my elbow, like Dad said.
As I recovered from the sneeze, I had a new sensation to deal with. It was like I was being pulled into myself.
When that was over, I gasped. All of my clothes were suddenly too big for me.
So was the desk right next to me.
As the rest of the class, now giant sized to my perspective, turned to look at me, I realized that I had shrunk, by a lot. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
