You are Ian MacPhair, son of a chief, and at ten foot tall, you are big even by Giant standards (the average male giant stands nine foot four inches tall). You’re going down to the lowlands not just to see if the giants will be welcome, but to prove yourself as a warrior.

Accompanying you are your three best friends: Angus, Argyle and Hamish.

At ten foot tall, you’re big. At ten and a half feet tall, Angus is huge. No one can doubt Angus’ courage. His sense of discretion is another matter.

At a little over nine feet tall, Argyle is consider short for a giant. But Argyle is more noted for his cleverness than his stature.

Finally there is Hamish, a nine and a half foot tall giant who has the stolidness and wisdom of an elder.
