"Ah... Ah-choo!!!" Melona cried, a sudden powerful sneeze snapping her out of her thoughts. She wiped her nose, finally noticing where she was, and in the process solving the mystery of why she was suddenly so congested. It seemed that, in her wondering, she had found her way to the school's West Wing. Unlike the rest of the campus, this section of the school was completely abandoned, left to collect dust and gradually fall into disrepair. The story went that at some point in the school's past, a massive fire had broken out, destroying large swathes of the main building. Perhaps as a means to assert the school's longevity, or simply an extension of the ego of the Headmaster at the time, those parts of the building had not only been rebuilt, but were refurbished and remodeled to become bigger and better. But due to the massive scale of the project, eventually corners had to be cut, especially when new headmasters were appointed and understandably began to downscale the costly construction to something more practical.
Because of this, quite ironically, the only part of the building to survive the fire was the only part left untouched, with many potions loaded with construction materials that were never used collecting dust, everyone far more interested in taking advantage of the nicer facilities than using the outdated ones. Every so often plans are announced to finally get the wing caught up to the rest of the building, but they always fall through before even breaking ground. Because of these things, while the wing isn't technically off-limits, it remains thoroughly unused. And like all dark, dusty, and decrepit buildings, tons of rumors and myths began to circulate about the wing, speculating on why it was so abandoned less out of a desire to find a reason and more for the fun of a question with no real answer. It had even become a tradition for students to have to spend one night in the wing before graduating, the perfect excuse to party unsupervised without having to sneak off-campus.
While Melona wasn't interested in spending the night in the empty halls, she also had no reason to go back to her dorm just yet. It was a friday, so she didn't have to worry about waking up early the next day, and though she knew she wasn't likely to find anything, exploring the place could make for a good enough distraction to keep from bullying herself. For some reason there was something inherently interesting about things left behind. Perhaps it was the thrill of being somewhere you aren't supposed to be without anyone around to actually punish trespassers. Or maybe it was to speculate on what could have been had the place been maintained. For Melona, though, she simply found these things deeply relatable. And if she can acknowledge these things, then in a way they cease to be useless, an honor many take for granted.
Eventually, as she explored, Melona discovered...
