What's the worst that could happen?

Melona looked at the paper. It appeared to have been ripped out of another text and put into this book, either for safekeeping or to be hidden in plain sight. She didn't quite understand how A Primer on Curses and Enchantments was a particularly great place for either purpose, but this would not have been the first time that she was baffled by the behavior of people at the Academy.

Judging by the print, the strange usage of capitalization, and the fact that the letter "s" looked more like the letter "f," Melona suspected that the paper was old indeed. It was a wonder that it hadn't crumbled already. She glanced over the text. To her immense displeasure, it took the form of the poem.

"There be no words in human Ken," she read, "nor Foolishness to justify, that this Brace should be smithed again, thus bury it in History."

Melona wondered what kind of antiquated linguistics would be needed to rhyme "Justify" with "History."

The text discussed the creation of a bracer which, when worn, had an unknown effect on the wearer. Its descriptions were vague, but based on the lines "the Quiv'ring of the masses Loins," and "to hellish Heavens they did rise," Melona had to imagine that whoever wore it had a pretty good time.

Didn't seem like the people who got on the person's bad side did, though.

As she continued to read, she started to realize that, in spite of its exhortations to never create such a bracer again, the poem contained instructions, however oblique, on how to do exactly that. All it needed was a basic knowledge of leather crafting, "the tanning of top Netel wine," and the inscription of "the lustful Wordes of Runic Eye." Melona assumed the "Netel" was an old-timey spelling of "nettle," but had no idea what a "Runic Eye" was, or its words could be lustful.
