If Crystal hadn’t noticed that her bottle of growth chemical had jostled loose from her bag, it was only appropriate that absolutely no one noticed the quiet, frightened freshman who picked it up. Maggie Emerson had been intimidated by the new faces and raucous noise on the bus, so much so that her natural quiet and introverted nature developed into practical invisibility over the course of the bus ride. She’d seen so many movies about mean high school girls and how they liked to bully nice girls like herself into oblivion; she’d rather fly under the radar than draw attention from one of them.
As her head was down and her eyes glued to the bus floor, she immediately saw the round bottle of…soda? Energy drink? Gatorade? roll into her foot; unfortunately, she’d been so focused on her own insecurities that she hadn’t seen from where the bottle had rolled. A quick scan of the bus didn’t reveal anyone actively looking for some misplaced item, and there certainly wasn’t any way Maggie was going to stand up and ask the other passengers if they’d lost their drink.
Remembering what her grandma used to say about pennies from Heaven, the introvert decided that logic also applied to refreshing beverages and slid the bottle into a pouch on the outside of her violet backpack specifically designed for that use.
Completely unaware of the ticking time bomb she had stowed next to her binders and the anime keychains dangling from bag’s zippers, Maggie slid the pack on as the bus pulled to a stop in the school lot.
1) Follow Crystal and Lucy as they realize the bottle is missing and scramble to find it.
2) Follow Maggie as she braves her first day of high school, Jumbo-Gro unintentionally in tow.
