The morning Sun sneaks in the gap beneath your curtains and the window ledge dragging you back to wakefulness. Getting out of bed, you're forced to confront the reality of last night's events. The alien absence between your thighs revealed like a wound, as you sit on the edge of your bed.
Before you can even gather your thoughts, the door bell starts ringing. Hoping to ignore it, you head to the kitchen. You definitely need a strong coffee to help you through this day.
The doorbell starts to ring more urgently, as you walk. The insistence forcing you to tighten the belt of your dressing gown, as if adjusting your armour before battle. You don't feel quite ready to face the world.
It's all still so new, and unsettling that you crave the energy boost. Hoping it's just a delivery, or something you can dismiss you head to the front door. If you can send the intruder on his way, you can take your time with the coffee, enjoy a couple of slices of toast, and see what you can think of to move forward.
Snatching the door wide, you hope the gust of fresh air will keep you alert until you can get your caffeine fix.
"Shit! It's your ex!" you realise. Only just keeping your thoughts unspoken, you take only a moment to mask your feelings.
