Chapter #9

Sam And Alex And The La Glace Triplets

by: Sly F Author IconMail Icon
Fraise wore the official uniform of her restaraunt, a white button-up shirt with a long black skirt, a short black necktie, and an apron. She wore a big white bow in her long auburn hair, and she put on pink gloss and blush to draw attention to her full lips and sharp cheekbones.

She was shaking with excitement, both hands hiding something behind her back, ready to play her little "game" with the detectives.

"Alright," Alex said. "What have you concocted for us tonight?"

Fraise eagerly set a small dish of chilli in front of Sam and a small dish of cavatappi and alfredo sauce in front of Alex.

Sam eagerly dug her spoon into her chilli while Alex took a few more seconds to polish her fork with the napkin before spearing a noodle.

Both sisters took their time chewing, letting the flavor roll over their tongue and coat their mouths. Sam held the spoon against her temple.

"It's something citrusy," she said.

"You used the same ingredient in both our dishes tonight, didn't you?" Alex asked.

Fraise just nodded her head, still watching them both eagerly.

"Is it lemon juice?" Sam asked. "Or lime juice?"

Fraise shook her head to both questions.

Alex took another bite of pasta.

"No," she said. "It's a powder."

"Lemonade?" Sam said, taking another bite of the chili. "Or fruit punch?"

Alex took a spoonful of Sam's chilli while Sam tried a bite of one of her noodles.

"It's Tang," Alex said. "A packet in each of these bowls."

"That's right!" Fraise said.

"It does add a certain citrus taste that's both sour and sweet," Alex said. "It almost works. It's hard to find anything good to do with Tang as an adult. Most people outgrow wanting to drink or eat something just because astronauts and soldiers have to."

"Chocola still likes to drink it," Fraise said. "One of these days I'm going to come up with a hidden ingredient that will stump both of you."

Alex took another look at the menu for La Glaces, with the slogan "Dining for all the senses" printed at top.

"I'll take a cheeseburger and fries," Alex said.

"Make mine a double," Sam said.

Fraise jotted their orders down.

"And what wine pairs well with that?" Alex asked.

"We've got a nice pinot noir," Fraise said.

"How nice?" Alex asked.

"Not that nice, actually," Fraise admitted. "I'm trying to save the really good stuff in the cellar for when I can open a restaraunt Grandpa would have been proud of. It will be part of the hotel Vanille wants to open."

Fraise took Sam and Alex's menus and walked past her sister Vanille, who was hard at work wiping down empty tables, wearing a baggy gray hoodie over her button-up and tie. Her curly platinum hair came down to her chest, and her make-up was much more subtle than Fraise's, giving her lips and eyes just a little bit of a sparkle.

You opened the door and walked in, and all eyes turned to you.

"Wow!" Vanille said. "Who is that?"

"That's our date for this evening," Sam said, grinning proudly.

You took your seat in the booth across from the two detectives as Alex informed you she'd taken the liberty of ordering some wine.

You'd been surprised by the softball questions they'd lobbed at you during your interrogation this morning. But then they'd asked you here, saying there were questions they'd be more comfortable asking you away from the scene of the crime or any other person of interest.

Fraise came back with the bottle of wine and some glasses right as you'd decided what you wanted to order. Before you could speak, the door opened again and the last of the La Glace triplets, Chocola, walked in.

"Give me a few minutes to get changed," Chocola called. "I can help with the dinner rush for the next couple hours before I have to get back to the club."

Her fair skin and tight brunette bob were covered in glitter catching the diner's florescent lights. She was wearing stiletto heels, fishnet stockings and a long overcoat to hide the skimpy stripper outfit she was wearing underneath.
