Steve woke up with a start, the morning light filtering through his window. He groaned, his body feeling even more cramped than the day before. As he sat up, his head brushed against the ceiling. Panic surged through him as he looked down at his body. He had grown even more during the night. His once snug sweatpants now looked like they were painted on, barely containing his massive thighs, and his hoodie was stretched to its limit, the fabric straining across his broad chest.
He swung his legs over the side of the bed, his feet landing with a heavy thud on the floor. Each movement felt cumbersome, his limbs seeming too large and unwieldy. He stumbled to the bathroom, his shoulders scraping against the doorframe as he squeezed through. When he looked in the mirror, he barely recognized the reflection staring back at him. His face was the same, but everything else had changed. He was now a towering giant, his muscles bulging and his clothes barely hanging on.
“Just get through the day,” he told himself, trying to keep calm. “Maybe this will stop.”
He squeezed into his car, the vehicle creaking under his weight as he drove to school. Each turn of the wheel felt awkward, his legs cramped in the limited space. When he arrived at the school parking lot, he took a deep breath and exited the car, his feet making an audible thump as they hit the ground.
In his first class, Steve tried to blend in, but it was impossible. He took a seat at the back of the room, his knees hitting the desk in front of him. The teacher droned on about something, but Steve couldn’t focus. His clothes felt unbearably tight, every movement a reminder of his growing predicament.
As the minutes ticked by, he felt another surge. His heart raced as his body began to stretch, his limbs elongating, muscles expanding. The fabric of his shirt groaned under the pressure, and with a loud rip, his sleeves tore away, exposing his bulging biceps. The seams of his jeans split, and the waistband snapped, leaving the tattered remains hanging from his hips.
The room fell silent as everyone turned to stare at him. Steve's face burned with embarrassment. He could feel his classmates' eyes on him, their shock and fear palpable.
"Oh my God," someone whispered.
"Is he… growing?" another voice murmured.
Steve tried to cover himself, but it was no use. His clothes were in shreds, and he was still growing. He could feel his body pushing against the confines of the room, his head nearly reaching the ceiling.
“Steve!” the teacher exclaimed, her voice tinged with panic. “You need to see the nurse. Now.”
He stood up, the desk in front of him toppling over. As he moved towards the door, his feet left dents in the floor, the sheer weight of his body pressing into the tiles. Each step felt like an eternity, his heart pounding in his chest. He needed to get out, to find a place where he could be alone and figure out what was happening to him.
He burst through the door, the frame splintering as he squeezed through. The hallway was filled with students, all of whom stopped and gaped at the sight of him. Steve tried to ignore their stares, focusing on getting to the exit. His breathing was ragged, each inhale feeling like it might be his last.
“Steve, wait!” Nancy’s voice called from behind him, but he couldn’t stop. He had to keep moving.
“Steve, slow down!” Robin shouted, her voice echoing through the corridor.
He broke into a run, his massive feet pounding against the floor, leaving a trail of dents in his wake. The halls seemed to close in around him, his body too large for the narrow space. He could hear the gasps and murmurs of his classmates, their fear and confusion growing with every step he took.
As he reached the main entrance, he pushed the doors open with a force that sent them crashing against the walls. He stumbled outside, the bright sunlight almost blinding him. He didn’t know where he was going; he just knew he needed to get away.
Nancy and Robin were right behind him, their faces etched with worry and determination. “Steve, stop!” Nancy pleaded, her voice breaking.
But he couldn’t stop. He ran across the school grounds, his massive strides eating up the distance. His clothes were in tatters, his body continuing to grow with every passing second. The world around him felt like it was shrinking, everything becoming smaller and less significant compared to his expanding form.
“Steve, please!” Robin shouted, her voice filled with desperation.
He glanced back at them, his eyes wide with fear. “I can’t,” he choked out. “I don’t know what’s happening to me!”
Nancy and Robin exchanged a look, their determination steeling their resolve. They weren’t going to let him face this alone. They sprinted after him, trying to keep up with his increasingly large strides.
Steve’s vision blurred as he ran, tears of frustration and fear streaming down his face. He felt like a monster, his body betraying him in the most horrifying way possible. The ground seemed to tremble under his feet, each step leaving a deeper impression in the earth.
Finally, he reached a wooded area on the outskirts of town. He crashed through the trees, his massive body snapping branches and trampling underbrush. He needed to find a place to hide, somewhere he could be alone and try to figure out what was happening to him.
He stumbled into a clearing and collapsed to his knees, his chest heaving with exertion. He felt his body continuing to grow, the process relentless and unstoppable. His clothes were in shreds, hanging off his massive frame like rags.
Nancy and Robin burst into the clearing moments later, panting and out of breath. They approached him cautiously, their eyes filled with concern.
“Steve,” Nancy said softly, her voice trembling. “We’re here. We’re not going to leave you.”
Robin nodded, stepping closer. “We’ll figure this out together. You’re not alone.”
Steve looked up at them, his eyes filled with desperation. “I don’t know what to do,” he whispered, his voice breaking. “I’m scared.”
Nancy knelt beside him, placing a comforting hand on his massive arm. “We’ll find a way to stop this. We promise.”
Robin nodded, her expression determined. “We’ll get through this, Steve. We’re here for you.”
As the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the clearing, Steve felt a glimmer of hope. Despite the terror of his situation, he knew he had friends who would stand by him no matter what. Together, they would find a way to fight back against the nightmare that had taken over his life.
