You had just finished your apprenticeship and were now ready for your first great quest: To deliver a scholarly article for your master and teacher to a friend of his.

It’s not that you mind doing this for your master. He has been both kind and generous to you throughout your apprenticeship. It’s just that, you’re not an apprentice of his anymore. You can use the title of Istar.

But your master is very excited about the treatise he just wrote, on the magical theory behind an obscure, minor water purification spell. But the treatise needs something called “peer review.” So your master wants you to deliver the treatise to a friend of his who lives in
