The Nurse Joy of Pewter City's Pokémon Centre was relaxing at her desk enjoying how relatively quiet it was. One reason for that was due to how the Gym Leader had left only a few days ago, and not many Trainers wanted to battle someone who was new to the job. The main reason, though, was that the majority of beginner Trainers had already passed through. So she wasn't expecting a large amount for a few weeks, when they already had three or four Badges.
"Excuse me?" asked one of the last of said beginners. "Could you heal my Betterfree? I had a run in with a horde of Beedrill."
"Of course. I'll just be one minute."
The vister, Ritchie, was more than willing to wait. His Butterfree, Happy, was only recently evolved. He wasn't too sure what specialty Pewter's Gym Leader was, but Zippo the Charmander and Sparky the Pikachu didn't give him much variety. He knew he'd need more Pokémon to give himself a greater advantage later on. As he waited, he decided to look at his birthday gift again.
Taking the Pokéflute out of his bag, he wasn't too sure why his father gave him it. He never really played, nor had he shown much intrest in playing. The only reason he took it was because of some kind of family tradition. Apparently, the flute had been passed down his family for generations, bringing luck to anyone that had it.
Ritchie didn't believe it luck. He'd rather think a battle through carefully and win with skill.
