Cheren woke up early as today was the day he would finally get his starter, and he wanted to make sure he was prepared.
After almost an hour of preparation, he thought himself more than ready.
Making his way to Professor Juniper's lab, he heard some rustling in the bushes. Knowing there weren't any dangerous pokémon close by, he decided to investigate and found a Patrat gnawing on a pokéflute.
His presence startled it and it ran away, leaving the flute behind. It wasn't badly damaged, so he decided to keep it.
After getting to the building, he thought it would be better to wait for Hilbert and Bianca. He started cleaning the flute in the meantime.
After 20 minutes, Hilbert finally made it and, surprisingly, Bianca came running not long after.
They entered together and were escorted to Juniper, who was standing in front of a battle arena.
When they were ready, she greeted them. "I've been waiting for you. Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Professor-"
"Professor Juniper." Cheren interrupted. "We know your name."
She smiled, calmly. "Cheren, today is a special day. So it would be best to do this formally." She cleared her throat and started again. "My name is Professor Juniper, and I am researching when and how the creatures we call pokémon came into existence." She stepped forward and handed each of them a pokédex. "These devices, called pokédex, will help record information on pokémon you've met or caught. But what use is such a device without a partner?"
She nodded to her assistant who brought a capsule holding three pokéballs. In front of each pokéball was a picture of a pokémon.
Cheren and Bianca both agreed to let Hilbert choose first.
