A small portal portal back to her familiar world opened above Aya. Expecting to see the face of her mother, or perhaps another diaper sister being discarded as waste equal to herself, Aya instead saw only a glinting golden disk, rotating slowly. The coin then dropped unnaturally quickly into the dark, coming right at her.
Aya felt the impact only for an instant, and then felt it pull her whole being upward, as if being sucked through a straw. The intense discomfort is only momentary; the force subsides into a feeling of weightless when the coin along with her consciousness float up and out into the nursery. The empty pastel room turned into a blur, and the coin zipped up further and out a nearby open window. The stale smell of the pale is quickly replaced by fresh open air and the sound of rushing air.
Able to direct her perception in all directions, the teen sees the bustling city below her stretch out in all directions.
Is she going to heaven? Is this how it all ends?
What would her mother, and her best friend Hana think if she was to disappear from this world so suddenly?
As if in response to her thoughts, Aya felt a sudden shift in her direction of travel. The small coin wobbled through the air with a new purpose. It came lower, closer to the rooftops. The girl could clearly make out pedestrians now, the noontime city streets packed with people traveling to their next destination.
One of them was a student carrying a large bag strapped to her body. Even from half a kilometer away, Aya in her current state could somehow see clearly that this was indeed Hana. The wobbling coin slowed its rotation and rocketing speed as it approached lower and lower. Noone else seemed be aware of its singular mission. Hana slows and comes to a stop at a crosswalk.
This has to be where she is meant to be going. What will happen once Aya reaches her? How can she explain any of this to her?
The coin moved through the air like a fluid, until it rushed right down along Hana's long hair and into...
