Still looking terrified, Rita nods as her cards appear infront of her. Both begin their prep turns as they can hear the screaming of other people running from the monsters. In their first three prep turns, Frederica summons Zimone, who appears infront of her, and summons her Fractal companion, Primo the Indivisible. With Ozolith the Shattered Spire also on the battlefield, the fractal she also summons enters with four +1/+1 counters, and she equips it with a Power Fist.
Rita gets out Atla Palani Turn 4, with a Mox Amber and Battlemage Bracers on the field, but not equipped. As they step out the door, the Phyrexian mites are already swarming towards them, only four so far, two of which are blocked by Atla Palani and Primo respectively, while the other two hit Rita and Frederica directly, dealing 1 damage and giving each a Poison counter. This was the danger of fighting Phyrexians. While each player had forty life, only fifteen damage needed to be dealt with poison in order to eliminate a player. What that would mean now that the monsters were real, neither Frederica or Rita wanted to find out.
As they kept running, looking for anyone needing help, they drew their next cards, and played their next turns. Frederica played Evolution Sage, followed by another Land, allowing her to add a counter to Primo plus an extra one due to Ozolith the Shattered Spire. Then, she used the remainder of her mana to tap Ozolith the Shattered Spire, in order to add another counter (which is also doubled) to Primo, bringing it to 8 Power and 8 Toughness.
Rita also played a land, equipping her Battlemage Bracers and then activating and tapping Atla Palani, paying the extra mana to copy her ability. She created two eggs.
As they round the corner...
