The last few weeks have been incredible, an absolute whirlwind.
Haley had to be honest, her hopes for university were nigh-nonexistent. She'd expected it to be more of the same bullshit she'd dealt with in high school, being shunned for her attitude or her fashion sense or her sexuality or her skin tone, maybe all four put together. The goal was just to do her classes, stick to herself, get out with her degree.
Then, on the second day of class, she'd met Karen.
The nervous wreck had bumped into her in the campus bookstore, stumbled a string of apologies for making Haley drop her books, then noticed one of the texts and started gushing about it. That only lasted so long before Karen had felt the need to apologize, again, this time for talking too much, and by that point Haley couldn't help but laugh.
After a moment, Karen had laughed with her.
The bio student treating Haley to lunch to make up for the collision turned into a date, which turned into more dates, which turned into them being full-on girlfriends.
They were taking it slow, which Haley didn't mind that much. After all, it had to prove more stable than sneaking behind the bleachers to make out with popular girls who'd refuse to acknowledge it ever happened, right?
But still, they were nearly four weeks into the relationship, and they still hadn't kissed, at least not on the lips.
Haley didn't want to press the issue, didn't want to force her stammering mess of a girlfriend to do anything she didn't want, but she did want to at least talk about it.
Which is why, after she let Karen into her dorm room, she closed the door and leaned against it, watching as the pretty girl shyly stepped over to sit on Haley's bed, twiddling fingers in her lap. "So... you wanted to talk?" she asked, voice so quiet that Haley could barely make out the words.
"It's not bad," she assured her, or at least tried to. Haley's voice tended to come out so dry, so toneless, that it was often misread. That was the problem with specing into snark, she supposed. "I just..." She crossed her arms in front of her. "Wanted to ask, what's up with the kissing thing?" Karen squirmed at the question. "Hey, I'm... I'm not mad, or anything. Just curious."
Karen blinked, turning to look at Haley, her eyes wide. "R-really?"
"Really."
"Okay..." Haley watched as her girlfriend screwed up her courage, taking a deep breath, before saying something that sounded insane. "I have a curse."
Haley didn't know what to say to that, except, "What kind of curse?"
