You sit down beside the muscle-head and he says, "Hey (IYNH), how're you doing? Long time no see!"
You think, 'Who is this?', but you know his voice! You must know him!
Then you realise that you did know him, a couple of years back in school, but he moved away. Your memory, though, is of a couch-potato fat guy - somebody who hated gym class. Now, you hardly recognise him - he's broad shouldered and muscular, athletic-looking in a heavyweight wrestler or rugby-player way - not a couch potato at all!
"Yeah, hi," you say, struggling to remember his name.
"You don't recognise me, do you?" he asks, smiling - with a mouth full of perfect teeth. "Not many people do, now."
"I know your voice," you say in your defence.
"Yeah, it hasn't changed, but the rest of me," he smiles wider and sweeps a hand down his underarmour-clad, muscular torso, "is very different."
"Jeremy, right?" you blurt out, as a name pops into your head.
"Right!" Jeremy replies, "but it's just 'Jer' to my friends."
You're longing to know what happened to change his body so drastically, but you don't ask at first.
"Sure, Jer. How long has it been?"
"I moved away summer before grade 10. So nearly three years. You're taller, at least - is your brother still on the football team?"
"Oh yeah, he plays college ball, he's almost 300 pounds. Lineman. But, what happened to you?"
"Quite a change, yeah?"
"Yeah. How..."
