Chapter #6

Into the Desert

    by: Small1 Author IconMail Icon
Tiny Alan endured a most uncomfortable journey deep within the duffel bag of one of the giant soldiers he had encountered in the park.

A bout of inactivity would raise his hopes, only to dash them again when his world — the interior of a duffel bag — would again erupt in violent motion.

He also had to suffer the agony of worry over the fate of the spell book. Without the book, shrunken Alan saw no means of restoring himself to normal size.

He had wanted an adventure, and, now, he was about to get one.

••••••

Toward the goal of eventually serving in special operations, soldier Tom Hawks had signed up for several specialized training courses, including a desert training exercise.

Tom was 21 years old, stood 6'1" tall, and weighed 190 pounds. He had a standard military buzz cut and kept in top physical condition.

The ride into the desert took only a couple of hours from the base. Tom looked forward to the challenge.

••••••

Finally, nightfall cast a chill to the dry air as Tom Hawks and some companions sat around a fire they had made between their tents.

After having his rations, Tom decided to turn in. He stood and walked to his tent. Accommodations were very spartan. He spread out a blanket over the sand, pulled off his boots, stripped down to his boxers, and settled onto the blanket.

Meanwhile....

Alan had used the last couple of hours to manage an escape from the interior of the duffel bag. He had reached the outside of the bag and dropped down onto the sand when the giant soldier returned. In the shadowy light, Alan could only make out the hulking outline of the giant's massive form.

Then, something huge smashed down, only inches from the tiny man.

When he caught his breath, Alan recognized the object as one of the giant's huge boots.

The companion boot then impacted on the sand, again only a few inches away. Alan began to run, convinced that he would remain healthier by putting some distance between himself and the giant soldier.

His flight took him outside the tent. By now he realized he had been transported out into the desert. Looking around, he saw the glow of a campfire and saw several huge, dark forms around the fire.

Should he return to the tent and try to contact the huge soldier there or advance toward the campfire and try his luck with those giants?

You have the following choices:

1. Go back to the tent

2. Advance toward the campfire
