"Captain!?" River looks at Mal with a confused look. "Why were you under my feet?"
Mal looks up at River somewhat angrily and screams "Cause you goram stepped on me!"
"I only step on things that are under my feet. If you didn't want to be stepped on you should not be under my feet... Why were you under my feet?"
"It wasn't intentional!"
River picks up Mal very gently in order to more easily have a conversation. "How does one accidentally get under someone's feet?"
Mal thinks this over a moment to find the best way to explain what happened in a way she would understand. "I was standing in one spot. You were moving. You moved where I was standing. Dong ma?"
River stares at Mal, thinking about what he said. "Why didn't you move?"
Mal is starting to get very at the pace of this conversation and yells up at River. "Get Zoe and tell her what happened to me!"
River carries Mal toward the door and asks "Why would Zoe want to know you were under my feet?"
"Not that! Me being shrunk!"
"People don't shrink."
Mal stared at River in surprise and stumbled to get his words. "What the goram hell do you think happened to me!?"
River stopped and looked at Mal with a stern, upset look. "I know what happened to you. You got under my feet and you still haven't told me why."
"I couldn't get under your feet if I wasn't shrunk!"
"People don't shrink."
"You're holdin me in your hand arn't ya?"
"Yes"
"Well!?"
"I said yes."
"How many people can you normally put in your hand"
"None."
"Well there you go."
"But people don't shrink."
"Just take me to Zoe."
River stares at Mal a moment then says matter-of-factly. "Mabye you're not a person."
Mal is worried again. "What?"
"People don't shrink. People don't fit in hands. And people don't get under other peoples feet." Her eyes narrowed on him at that point. "You are in my hand. You keep saying you shrunk."
"I did!" Mal Interrupted.
River continued without a pause but with emphasis increasing on every following word "And you were under my foot." Her grip seemed to change to a more natural and less careful grip. "That means you can't be a person."
