Maria looked at her young daughter and said, "Sarah, you have to get rid of those woodchips."
Both Jenna and Sarah were confused, "why, mommy?" Sarah inquired.
"Squeaky isn't like Chuckles Sweetie," Maria pointed out. Jenna couldn't believe her mother just used the stupid pet name Sarah had given her, "remember when you lost your shoes at the park and got that splinter?"
Sarah frowned, "Yeah, that hurt a lot."
"Well, Squeaky can't walk comfortably in those woodchips like Chuckles could, especially when she doesn't have shoes."
Sarah reached into the cage, and despite Jenna's protests, took her shrunken sister into her hand, "I'm sorry, Squeaky, I didn't know."
"I'll watch Squeaky while you dump the woodchips, Sweetie," Maria offered as she held out her hand.
Sarah happily put Jenna in her mother's hand, "thank you, Mommy," Sarah thanked as she kissed her mother on the cheek, "be good Squeaky, I'll be right back," she promised.
After Sarah left the room, Jenna looked up at Maria, "Mom, please tell me you're joking," she said hopefully.
"I'm quite serious young lady, you've been out of control lately and haven't been pulling your weight around here, and I think some time as Sarah's pet will do you well she's been begging you to spend time with her for months, and I think you owe it to her." Maria lectured.
"But what if I get stuck like this?" Jenna demanded.
"I'm sure Sarah will take good care of you." Maria coldly replied.
Jenna was about to argue when the door opened and Sarah came back in with the cage, "I dumped the woodchips Squeaky, and look I put a washcloth was down, so it's nice and comfy."
"That's very considerate of you, Sarah," Maria praised, "now Sweetie, if you want to keep Squeaky, you have to take care of her; do you promise to do that?"
"I do, Mommy," Sarah promised, "I'll feed her, make sure she has lots of water, clean up after her, and I'll make sure she has lots of fun." Jenna didn't think she'd like any fun Sarah had in mind, and she found herself pulled into a tight hug as Sarah took her back from Maria. "We're going to be best friends."
With a pat on the head, Maria left Sarah and Jenna alone, and with a smile, Sarah announced, "let's play more Squeaky you're super fun!"
