Jasper spotted the girl running down the road and immediately knew what he must do. This was Robyn, the girl he had been sent to assist. Though he had not been in the mood to act all mister-nice-guy he had agreed and was now stuck with his task.
He reached behind his back and grasped the cold metal, pulling the gun out of his waist band. He sighed in annoyance and shot his weapon in the direction of the girl. Instead of a normal bullet firing from his gun, a mercury bullet was cast from the barrel. Not only was mercury dangerous to humans but even more dangerous to Them.
The bullet rocketed toward Robyn but curved around her at the last second and impaled the sickening creature behind her. Jasper listened to the creature's piercing screams carry with the wind and echo off the valley walls. Robyn was still running towards him but slower now, and more cautiously. Jasper slipped his gun into the back of his waist band and crossed his arms, waiting for Robyn to slow to a stop in front of him.
"What's an innocent little girl like you doing, running around being chased by Them?" Jasper asked mockingly.
"Oh please," Robyn replied exasperatedly, "I'm not innocent."
Jasper chuckled while turning around and walking down the road, "I've done my research sweet heart, and believe me, I've seen way worse than stealing candy bars from your local convenience store."
Robyn scowled and followed after him, "I don't need this right now. One of my friends just died, stop trying to make my day worse."
Jasper sighed and glanced at her sardonically, "I'm sorry for your loss but I'm not here to make your day worse. If I was then I would've let that repulsing beast have you for lunch."
"Fine, you saved the day, now who are you?!" Robyn asked.
"Name's Jasper, today I'll be your Knight In Shining Armor, how may I be of assistance?" He replied dryly.
"There's no need for your snooty comments, I think we can survive with out the attitude."
"I personally think our situation needs a little humor," Jasper said turning into the undergrowth off the side of the road.
"I don't see how you can find humor in this," Robyn replied angrily then added, "Where exactly are we going?"
"Well seeing as I'm Prince Charming, we're going to my majestic castle just over the hills of nonexistence."
"Seriously, cut the crap, where are we going?" Robyn persisted.
Jasper looked at her, "You're the mind reader, you tell me."
"Oh so now you want me to sort through your deep dark secrets and learn the positions of all your precious keepsakes?" Robyn threatened.
"Hm, good point, it's not like you'll be able to find my precious keep sakes anyways seeing as we have about a 36.4% chance of making it out of here alive," Jasper paused and jumped onto a rather tall boulder to get a better view. "We're going to go east, towards the mountains, the creature's camp is near the river, to the west. If we move fast we can get away before tomorrow."
"How do I know I can trust you?" Robyn asked.
Jasper sent her an annoyed look, jumped off the boulder and continued walking. Robyn groaned and raced after him. They walked for a few miles before reaching a complete drop off cliff. Jasper looked up and down the overhang searching for a way over.
"There's no way across, we'll have to go down," Jasper explained leaping onto a rock ten feet below them. Robyn looked down hesitantly. "Come on princess," Jasper urged, "We're only a glass slipper and pumpkin carriage away from being safe." Robyn cursed under her breath before reluctantly jumping down next to Jasper. As soon as she landed a crack of a rock splitting sounded. The ground beneath them began to tremble. Jasper looked around mournfully before reaching in his pocket and pulling out a zip lining device the size of a small cookie. "I might be able to get the hook onto the cliff over there," Jasper shouted to Robyn pointing towards a large platform about fifty meters away. "It's either that or we fall."
