This choice: Jackie notices she's thirstier than usual... • Go Back...Chapter #6Jackie notices she's thirstier than usual... by: Unknown As usual, her dad was already gone to work, and her mom was still asleep, so Jackie was left to breakfast alone. Not that she ever ate much, the way she saw it, breakfast was for fat girls. She usually just had a glass of orange juice. She took the carton from the fridge and poured herself a tall glass. As she sipped, she flicked through an old issue of Cosmo that was lying on the kitchen counter. She had just got past the contents page when she noticed her glass was empty.
'Huh?' She thought to herself. Maybe she didn't fill it as much as she had thought. She grabbed the carton and filled her tumbler again. She returned to the magazine, glossing over the articles and focusing on the pictures.
As she added things to her mental shopping list, still drinking and refilling her glass whenever it emptied. Glancing at the clock told her it was time to go, but when she went to put the juice back in the fridge, she realised it was almost empty.
'What?" she actually asked aloud, shaking the carton in disbelief. Had she really finished off the whole thing?
She frowned, and then shrugged. It didn't really matter anyway. She threw the cardboard carton into the bin, and after a last check of her hair and makeup, she set off for school.

"Miss Burkhart? Miss Burkhart?"
Jackie suddenly recognised her name, and responded without thinking.
"Yes?" She said, a slight catch in her throat.
There were a few muffled laughs from her classmates, but Mrs. Treacher didn't seem to find it amusing.
"I was asking you what you thought of the themes of deception present throughout Hamlet, but I was clearly wasting my time."
She blushed. "Sorry, Mrs Treacher."
'Mean old witch.' Jackie thought to herself as the lesson resumed. She had been trying to pay attention, but was distracted by the unpleasant dryness of her mouth. She really needed something to drink, and soon.
"Um, Mrs. Treacher?" She asked, coughing a little, "May I go to the restroom?"
The elderly teacher sighed, overly dramatically in Jackie's opinion. "Yes Miss Burkhart, as I can see you have no interest in the remainder of my lesson."
Jackie thanked her and hurried out. She bypassed the bathroom and made straight for the water fountain. Normally she thought they were gross, but this was an emergency. She put her lips as close to the faucet as she could bear and pressed the button. Greedily sucking down the icy cold water, Jackie closed her eyes and enjoyed the sensation of quenching her thirst and filling her belly. She kept drinking until the bell rang, startling her and almost causing her to slop water down her front.
Brushing a few errant drops off of her sweater, Jackie's eyes widened as she noticed her stomach had filled up quite a bit. It was maybe half as big as it had been last night, but now she didn't even feel full. She ran a hand over the small bulge, a pleasant shiver running through her. But then the halls started filling up with people, and she had to hurry back to class and grab her books. It was Thursday, which meant next class was...  indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
