At first, the tiny scientist struggled to get free of the fly's grasp, but then thought better of his attempt.
If those spiky limbs let go of him, the drop to the distant floor looked to be a long one. As the winged bug veered around the colossal kitchen, the shrunken man found himself hoping desperately that the fly wouldn't let him go.
The fly buzzed toward a wide glass pane and began beating itself against the kitchen window. Of course, every impact rattled the insect's tiny captive as well.
Suddenly, the fly made a sharp turn, flying away from the window and entering a spiral dive. Tiny Mr. Smith saw the fly's destination and tried to scream. "No!" The bug-sized man shouted. "Not the damn trash can!"
Sure enough, the fly landed amid heaps of garbage inside Mr. Smith's kitchen trash can. Fast-food wrappers, old banana peels and coffee grounds competed for space inside the plastic-lined walls of the steep trash container.
When the fly landed, it released its hold on the tiny scientist. Given no warning, he skidded face first into a field strewn with old coffee grounds. When he picked himself up, he saw the fly found the blackened banana peel more interesting.
As the tiny scientist gazed around his prison, he came to the awful realization that getting out of the trash can posed a bigger challenge than getting into it.
Suddenly, the fly buzzed away and flew out of the enormous plastic container.
