Meeting Perry's friends, including Hilary and Addy

"Hi Pete - dig in!" says the last of the group, a girl who's nearly Pete's size - and looking at him intently. "I'm Hilary," she adds, "and any friend of Perry's is a friend of ours!"

"Especially when he's packing pounds like Perry!" interjects another girl, who's big and curvy, but not Hilary's size.

You feel yourself start to blush and Hilary immediately notices. "Addy, that wasn't fair - look, he's blushing! He's new, he's probably not as comfy with his size as Perry is - or as you and I are!"

"Sorry, Pete, didn't mean to embarrass you," the girl called Addy apologizes. "Can I make up for it by getting you a plateful from the steam table? Anything you don't like?"

You're taken aback by the size of Perry's friends, the upfront discussion of size, and now an offer of food from somebody you hardly know... and you're fascinated by Hilary. Taking the easy way out, you reply, "Ah, sure. I don't like squid."

"Well that's easy," Addy replies warmly. "Back in a jiff."

"So you're new here?" Hilary asks, in between mouthfuls. "Move far?"

"From Chicago," you reply, after asking a waiter for a soda. "Dad got transferred."

"Well, hang around with Perry and us and we'll show you everything that matters!" Hilary declares.

Addy comes back with a well-loaded plate and...
