The portrait

"What" You say, turning back around to the cashier.
"I believe you forgot your change, miss."
The cashier says.
"Oh yeah, thanks." You go and sit down at a far away table, and start to drink your coffee. When a painting on the wall catches your eye. You stare at it, unable to remove your gaze.
The painting is of a middle aged man, with an old military suit on. He seemed to be staring right at you. That was only the slightly weird thing. The other thing is, underneath the portrait, in a gold sheet, read the words, "I believe you."

This scares you, and a passing sole, upsets you gaze. what do you do next?
