Hi Amethyst Angel 💐 Author Icon,

This review is a part of "I Write in 2025Open in new Window. [13+]. *Smile*

Overall Impression:

I enjoyed this approach to the set prompt. It asks if science is compatible with faith, and you explore this through the relationship between the characters, and the challenges that they have to overcome.

Denise is a woman of science. She is clearly very intelligent, and her current research focuses on finding the god particle. Her husband, Felix, is a barber's assistant, studying for his GED. He is a man of faith. Denise and Felix have a very different approach to life and the universe, but they love the other deeply.

When Denise falls ill her faith in science weakens, and she finds herself more receptive to discovering what religious faith is all about. It was not what she'd expected, yet she remains skeptical - how can you truly believe in something that you cannot touch, or hear, or see?

As she reaches her end, what she needs is a miracle...

I think that you have done a good job with your characters. I found myself liking both, and I liked that they respected the other's beliefs and opinions. That makes for a healthy relationship.

All in all, you have a good piece here. And your spelling and grammar are flawless! Great job!

Suggestions:

I do have a couple of suggestions, dear author. I hope that you'll find them helpful!

*Snow2* I know that you wanted to show the power of faith, but I found an overnight curing of such advanced leukemia to be a little too convenient for the point made in this piece. It felt unbelievable, and pulled me out of the story.

That does not mean that there cannot be a miracle. Perhaps the doctors thought that there was no chance of her getting better, but she reaches a turning point after her prayers and she'll get better over time. There have been cases of people being told that their cancer was incurable and they did recover. Just, maybe not in the space of a single night?

*Snow2* I confess that I find it sad that Denise gives up on her scientific dreams. I can understand that she wants to explore the Holy Scriptures after what she has been through, but does she have to give up everything she worked for in order to do so? Can she not have both?

My Rating:

This is a well-written piece that explores science and religion. I enjoyed the read.

I did have a couple of suggestions. Of course, it's your story and the whole point of the contest you entered it in is to share of your faith and your beliefs, so the ending is completely up to you! I did want to mention my thoughts, though, and in line with those I give this item a rating of 4 out of 5.

Thank you for sharing your work. *Heartv*
