Words hold a lot of meaning. At one point, they were sacred, one's word meaning a great deal - worth more than gold. Your word was a promise, come Hell or high water, if you gave it, you kept it, or else you weren't trustworthy, and if you weren't trustworthy, you'd have a hell of a time getting folks to help you in a time of need. These days - I don't know.
