A Friend ![]() A fond WdC memory ![]() |
Good morning, Amethyst Angel 🌼 ![]() You know that I don't do poetry. Don't write it, don't get it, as a general rule don't like it. But when someone sits down and writes a poem about all your best qualities, well, what's not to like? So, let's have a look... This is free verse, which means it doesn't have to rhyme or have a certain number of lines per stanza. These are generally less esoteric than the more formal poems, most of which use symbolism that flies so far over my head that it's safe from antiaircraft missiles. And there's a simple subject here, one that I can readily understand: Me. You say a lot of flattering things about me, and I'll tell you the same thing I tell my wife when she waxes poetic on me: I'm just a man living the way I believe all men should live. It would be a lot gentler world if they did. But this Friend you're paying tribute to is a lucky man indeed to have someone so admire him. Mechanically, your poem is what the navy calls "four-oh," that is 4.0, perfect, on its performance rating scale. The font is big and easy to read, spelling and grammar are perfect, punctuation and capitalization need no corrections, and I see nothing to cause this to be less than a five-star work. As honored as I am by the poem, I am equally honored to hang those five stars on it. I either never saw this, not unreasonable as it would have been written after I left, or I have forgotten it, which seems highly unlikely... although at my age, some of the things I forget are downright embarrassing! In any case, this is something to cherish, along with the friend who wrote it. By the way, what did you think of that novel? You take care of yourself, young lady, and I'll be seeing you around the stacks! Stay inspired, ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
