![]() | Give Peace a Chance ![]() Poem about the futility of war ![]() |
Greetings, Sue, I'm here for I Write 2025 ![]() This is a poignant and heartfelt cry against the universally understood horrors of war. You have chosen a rhyme scheme to bring the message home, but I noticed it was not followed consistently, dropping the ABAB for an ABCB at the center or third verse. Perhaps the central position of the verse allows for a shift; I believe poetry is a flexible creation for the most part. You cover the issue clearly: the civilians can only watch in dismay as their leaders cause pain and death in distant lands. We feel helpless to do anything to stop it, in the face of so much corruption and wealth. As far as worldview goes, the poem falls a bit short, offering no solution or suggestions other than simply to "give peace a chance." There is no deeper study of the issues involved, nor an appeal to anyone's sense of a higher power... Now I'm starting to talk like LightinMind ![]() ![]() We are left with the anguish of innocent lives taken, and can only cry and plead for peace, unable to answer the eternal question of why war exists. I can't think of anything to suggest to improve either the outlook or the form. I usually prefer to shut myself away from bad news... I'm a really good escapist and denialist, unfortunately ![]() I was just discussing this yesterday, in fact, with someone else, in a review. Here's a song - two, actually - which might be relevant... Imagine Dragons lead singer Dan Reynolds struggles with concepts of faith, and I find his feelings relatable. video ▼ video ▼ Take care, thanks for sharing, and keep writing ![]() ![]() ![]()
