*Gear* What's That Thang? *Gear*

Since this is the first newsletter you begin receiving when you join, I'm sure many of you are busy exploring all the wonderful options WdC has to offer. First are the big tabs at the top of your page, featuring your Portfolio and Biography. There's the square with lines, a place you can put your picture, or choose a stock picture to show on your page. Don't forget the update button. Click the words Stock Cover to see all your options.

Adding a bit of color there is like moving into an apartment and putting up pretty drapes. Below the big tabs is a button for your Item Summary. That shows the items and types in your portfolio. If you're upgraded, you can see Stats there.

Most of what you'll need is in the left column. Click each one and see what's there! Some have a > next to it, which means there's a flyout menu with even more choices.

Once you create an item, and decide you want to edit it, that's where the handy dandy gear icon comes into play. Click that and you'll get lots of options in the edit mode. There are even spell check and word count options. Once you're more familiar with the site, you can go deeper with your edit logs, transferring that item or exporting to your hard drive. (Back stuff up!)

So if you're new, take your time and find all the great gems we have here. The StoryMaster Author Icon has taken the time to add features you don't find on other sites, that are specifically helpful to authors. If you're a seasoned veteran of WdC, take a peek and see what you might have missed.

And as always, Write On!
