 | Children love horror. So much so that they are often featured in scary movies. For example, here are some child quotes from your favorite films.

 "They're here..."

 "I see dead people."

 "Redrum! Redrum!"

 | Something's Under My Bed
Children and horror can be a complex mix, with some finding it a fun and engaging way to explore their fears, while others may be negatively impacted by scary content. While some exposure to spooky or scary content can be a healthy way for children to explore and manage their fears, excessive or inappropriate horror can lead to anxiety, nightmares, and other negative effects.

But why do kids love horror?

Reading horror allows kids who have grown up in safe and secure settings to experiment with both fear and bravery. They get to put themselves in the shoes of the main characters experiencing the fright, but also feel the triumph and exhilaration of outsmarting the evil clown or rescuing their little sister from a scary ghost.

Sometimes kids are afraid to go to bed.

Why are kids afraid of monsters in the closet or under the bed, when nobody told them of such scary things?

Teraphobia is the fear of monsters. Kids have vivid imaginations and sometimes can't easily separate reality from fantasy. Their imagination is running wild, yet they're having trouble remembering which of the things they imagine are just in their mind and which are under the bed, in the closet, or in the dark hallway.

When your little one cries because he's afraid of monsters, you'd better believe him. No matter how silly it seems to you. Stephen King said it best, “Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win.”

Later! I gotta go, I'm still celebrating my birthday.
