 | Friday The 31st
Halloween is a great season for writers.

Folklore has decided that the end of October is when the veil between the living world and the spirit world is so thin that there is a risk of mixing the two.

Not only the dead, fairies, demons, and other supernatural beings increase their activity and are possibly roaming the earth.

Because of the connection, the art of divination, or future telling about death, health, and even love should be easier at this time.

As these things are kind of scary, people have come up with rituals to keep the living side of things going strong.

Candles and fires give light and warmth. Bonfires are a beloved gathering place for anyone afraid of the dark or even just of being alone. There is sure to be a big party going on.

People who have reasons to fear being recognized by any malevolent or even just curious spirits dress up to reduce the risk of being seen. Or they wear scary costumes to be more like the spirits, at least in looks.

Giving candy to kids means there won't be any pranks. (Maybe) But there is also the option of setting up whole altars with multi-course meals and beverages for the ancestors.

All of these colors, scents, events, and stories are great fodder for writers to create new stories, or retell the old ones with a personal twist. Don't let the season run away without writing some scary short stories or at least reading those written by others here.
