Ah, the holidays! They're a time that inspires romance. 20 years ago, my husband and I met in October. In mid-November, we started dating. Since we were in Germany, our budding romance played out against Kris Kringle markets and snow. On Christmas Eve, he asked me to marry him. How could I say no? Sigh….
I still remember the romantic gestures we shared. I bought him a stuffed penguin named "Pooky." We traveled to Muenster to visit old friends, went out to dinners, drank gluehwein, roses, you get the idea.
Romantic gestures resonate with us throughout the years, so I thought I'd share some with you. Share with your loved one this season. Remember the little things mean a lot.

From him to her:
1. Tell her she's beautiful
The best aspect of this gesture is to be spontaneous. Call her at work. In today's modern world, send an email or a text. Leave a note in her purse. An unexpected gesture like this might led to be unexpected night of romance.
2. Handwrite a letter
It doesn't have to be long or drawn out, but a handwritten note carries a very personal, romantic meaning.
3. Take her out to lunch
Romantic dinners soften the heart. My husband and I went on several when we were dating. It meant a lot to me that he wanted to be seen with me in public.
4. Buy her a present
Okay, I'm a sucker for roses, but a thoughtful present geared toward her likes will win her heart.
5. Dance with her
Move next to her. There's no better way to learn how your bodies fit together than dancing. The more spontaneous and fun, the better.
For him from her
1. Cook his favorite meal.
Even if you aren't a cook, he'll appreciate the effort.
2. Give him a small gift.
He likes getting gifts, too. Just remember keep it personal and simple.
3. Play with him
Okay, maybe not football, but my husband and I enjoyed several raquetball dates when we first started dating.
4. Write him a note
He likes these, too, especially if you put just the barest hint of your perfume on the paper.
5. Listen to what he says
Really listen. Get to know what makes him tick. That's a big turn-on, trust me.
