"Ode To Earth Mother"



Tree trunks, Mother's spine, thick and thin, young and old,
with tributaries of scattered arm-branches, Her life giving veins.

Waving hair, a canopy with verdant leaves, variety of shapes and sizes
sometimes decorated with spring blossoms; white and pink dots.
Wreaths of autumn gold highlights Her tresses.
Winter snow cloaks her naked shivers while She sleeps.

Halos of clouds compliment Her attire.
The rainbow, a crown of glory, proposes promises for all mankind.

Bodies of water, life's blood, runs through Her veins.
Mounds and rolling hills are Her budding breasts,
while mountains signify Her treasure chest
filled with ancient stories and maps
holding treasures of gems and riches deep inside Her.

Beneath fertile and sandy grounds
beats Her heart, like a drum; living throbs sending love notes.

Breezes are whispers of hope and happiness
gently hugging our souls with peaceful thinking and dreaming.

Wildlife creatures, large, small, and minuscule;
four-legged, two-legged, water and winged-beings
are Her beloved companions.

Artisans pay tribute to Her in paint, penned word,
eyes spoken through the lens, as well as song and dance.

When Mother Earth's spirit grieves the disrespect and abuse,
ground quivers and quakes with sobs.
Rain-tears become floods, and strong winds are sighs of despair.
